The purpose of this position is to provide general maintenance and repair to City parks and sports facilities. This is accomplished by performing skilled and semi-skilled construction and maintenance to landscape, baseball fields, and turf. Depending on assignment, this position may require participation on a rotation schedule for on-call, after-hours support, which includes evenings, holidays, and weekends. Other duties include completing related tasks as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform skilled maintenance and repair required for the upkeep of landscape and sports turf areas.
- Maintain irrigation systems by setting and adjusting irrigation clocks and controls. Makes repairs to irrigation systems.
- Perform turf maintenance functions that may include fertilizing, aerating, top dressing, mowing, dethatching, and over seeding depending on assignment.
- Depending on assignment, may perform ball field maintenance, which includes laser leveling, reconditioning mounds, and plate edging to major league specifications.
- Mix and apply herbicides to athletic fields and special maintenance areas.
- Perform routine safety inspections and repair of related facility equipment. Inspections include, but are not limited to playground equipment, safety screens, nets, cages, benches, and backstops, depending on assignment.
- Work in an outdoor environment under extreme weather conditions (Heat, Cold, Rain)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- High school graduation or equivalency
Experience:
- 1-2 years previous experience required in the same or similar previous positions.
- The job requires a good working knowledge of common and uncommon techniques, methods, practices, procedures, use of forms, routines, etc., of a moderate to complex nature.
Physical Demands:
- Work requires heavy physical exertion and effort. Forces exerted are equivalent to lifting between 25 and 50 pounds.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid AZ Driver’s License upon hire.
- Pesticide/herbicide applicators license within 6 months of hire.
