Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Youth Sports Instructor will represent the Old Colony Y in a positive professional manner, resulting in friendly, convenient and courteous service. The Youth Soccer Instructor will be responsible for teaching classes as assigned. Staff is also responsible for the safety and well being of all class participants.
JOB FUNCTION:
- Program/Department Responsibilities
- Instruction of assigned classes, teaching proper techniques and form of
appropriate skills
- To have good sports skills and experience of the class, gym and
outdoor areas
- To keep accurate attendance records and class records pertaining to progressions provided for by directors
- To evaluate students ability level(s)
- Possesses strong knowledge of rules, guidelines, and behavior expectations
- Referee if called upon
- Reporting practice, and game notes
- To explain progress and procedures to parents
- To prepare gym/outdoor areas with necessary equipment/supplies
- To maintain order and safety in class
- Instruction of proper use of youth exercise equipment
- Be informed of all current and/or upcoming programs and special events in order to interpret YMCA membership and program information to members and potential members to increase their participation in each are

- To clean area after class, reporting any damaged or broken equipment

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of a high school diploma.
- Minimum of 1 to 2 years of prior experience in sports instruction, implementation, organization and supervision.
- Must obtain Massachusetts Youth Soccer Grassroots License within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to work with people of all ages.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds. Must be able to walk, stand, stoop and bend during the work day.
- Knowledge of various sports and game modifications.
