About the Role:
The School Based Community Health Educator (CHE) supports HICHC by providing health education and outreach to students, families, and community groups. This role develops and implements strategies to improve community health, assists with data collection and analysis, and ensures patients and visitors are welcomed and supported. The position is a hybrid of education, outreach, and administrative tasks to enhance access to care and strengthen community health.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Required-High school diploma or equivalent
- Required-Six months related experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
- Preferred-Graduation from college preferred with appropriate degree and/or certification relating to health or education.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts outreach and discusses health concerns with community members, educates people on the importance and availability of healthcare services for specific preventive screenings.
- These will include presentations to community organizations, private and non-profit, individuals and other specific populations.
- Conducts information and education through activities throughout Hawaiʻi Island, which can include helping to organize health screenings or health classes on specific topics.
- Assesses the needs of the people and communities HICHC serves such as identifying health-related issues that affect the community and collecting data.
Skills:
This position requires basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, psychosocial factors, and social determinants of health. Candidates should be familiar with general office procedures and able to operate standard office equipment. Strong multitasking, time management, and the ability to work independently while following direction and collaborating with the health team are essential.
