Position Summary: Responsible for purchasing and expediting electronic components, supplies, and related items to support manufacturing production schedules.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Buyer at Altek includes the following:

• Procures material to ensure continuous production while controlling inventory levels.
• Analyzes purchase requisitions and determines the most cost effective, reliable Supplier.
• Analyzes customer ship schedule (backlog) and regularly communicates order status.
• Reacts to Engineering Alert Notices (EAN) and places purchase orders if necessary.
• Reacts to non-conforming (rejected) material to prevent production delays.
• Works closely with Suppliers to meet promised dates

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

• Strong verbal and written communication, and experienced planning skills
• Must be a team player for seamless coordination within and between departments
• Awareness of pricing and inventory issues
• Great attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure/deadlines
• Knowledge of general purchasing practices and procedures
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with Suppliers, and within Altek

Education and/or Experience 

• Must have a high school diploma or GED
• Typically, 2-4 years of successful experience in area of responsibility and successful demonstration of listed key responsibilities.

Working Relationships

• Contacts are primarily with immediate supervisor or manager and others in employee's home area. 
• May interact with other departments.
• May provide general guidance to others and train lesser skilled employees.

Working Conditions 

• Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing office environment.
• Work involves lifting materials up to 35 pounds individually
• Work may involve sitting or standing for up to 8 hours per day.
