The Stars of Valor Fellowships Program is committed to honoring and acknowledging the invaluable service, sacrifice, and resilience provided by wounded or disabled veterans, Active-Duty military spouses, and Gold Star families. It presents a distinct opportunity for individuals to extend their significant contributions to America beyond their military tenure. Senate Resolution 442 (117th Congress) established the SFC Sean Cooley and SPC Christopher Horton Congressional Gold Star Family Fellowship Program, Senate Resolution 443 (117th Congress) established the McCain-Mansfield Fellowship Program, and Senate Resolution 737 (118th Congress) established the Active-Duty Military Spouses Fellowship Program. Collectively, these programs are the Stars of Valor Fellowships Program.

These fellowships are exclusively available to eligible wounded or disabled veterans, Active-Duty military spouses, and Gold Star family members who aspire to serve as paid fellows for a two-year duration within the esteemed halls of the United States Senate. Leveraging their unique perspectives, selected fellows will have the privilege of supporting Senators and their dedicated staff, helping to shape legislative agendas, and address constituents' concerns on a national scale. These positions are based in Washington, DC, as well as in Senate Offices across the United States.

The McCain-Mansfield Fellowship Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must

• Have an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions; 
• Have been released from active duty within the last five years;
• Qualify as wounded or disabled, and provide official documentation thereof, which may include a DD Form 214 or other documentation from the Department of Defense or the Department of Veterans Affairs; and
• Confirm a terminal pay grade at or below E-5 (Enlisted), CW-2 (Chief Warrant Officers), or O-3 (Officers).
• Veterans promoted to the pay grades of E-6, W-3, or O-4 within six months of separation from active duty are eligible.

• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in handling sensitive information
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary

Education Requirements:

High School Diploma required. Some college-level classes are preferred but not required.
