Medical Assistant – Coastal Health (St. Marys, GA)
Coastal Health is currently seeking a motivated, career-oriented Medical Assistant to join our growing team in St. Marys, Georgia. This role involves both clinical and administrative responsibilities, including assisting physicians with patient care, handling clerical duties, and supporting the overall functionality of the office.

Key Responsibilities:
-
Verify patient information through interviews and review of medical history
-
Take vital signs and confirm reason for visit or treatment
-
Assist providers during examinations and procedures
-
Prepare and process lab specimens; perform basic on-site lab tests
-
Dispose of contaminated materials and sterilize instruments
-
Administer medications as directed
-
Telephone prescriptions to pharmacies and authorize refills under supervision

Draw blood, prepare patients for X-rays, perform EKGs
-
Remove sutures and change dressings
-
Educate patients on medications, diets, and post-visit instructions
-
Document examination, treatment, and test results
-
Maintain up-to-date knowledge through continuing education
-
Perform both front and back-office tasks
-
Support practice reputation by proactively adding value to patient care
Job Requirements:
Education / Certifications:
-
High school diploma or GED required
-
Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited program preferred
-
Medical Assistant certification preferred but not required
-
Current CPR certification
-
Up-to-date health records with required immunizations (Hepatitis B, TB)
Experience:
-
Minimum of 3 years' experience working as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting

Experience with Athena EMR system is preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
-
Proficient in performing EKGs, taking vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and intramuscular injections
-
Able to multitask and manage responsibilities in a fast-paced primary care environment
-
Must be comfortable performing both clinical and administrative duties

Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a community college course in medical assisting. Appropriate certificate indicating passing grade for specific specialty if working in specialty department; e.g., pediatric medical assistant exam.
Experience: Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant or documented evidence of completed Medical Assistant externship. Electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection current experience.
Other Requirements: Current documentation of medical assistant certification. Must possess a current CPR certification and current health records with the appropriate immunizations to work in the health care field (hepatitis B and tuberculosis).
