 Job Summary: In this role, you will manage the Machine Shop and team members, providing training and fostering a positive, safe work environment, on the Weekend Shift while supplementing the team workload as a working Mill and Lathe CNC Machinist. You will document any updates for the Day Shift Machine Shop Supervisor so that the Machine runs efficiently.   


 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee and manage machine shop personnel, including machinists, operators, and technicians. 
  • Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to team members. 
  • Conduct performance evaluations and handle disciplinary actions when necessary. 
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment. 
  • Ensure that all machine shop activities adhere to quality standards and specifications. 
  • Implement and maintain quality control processes and procedures. 
  • Address and resolve any quality issues that arise during production. 
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by enforcing safety regulations and protocols. 
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations. 
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions. 
  • Manage machine shop resources, including tools, equipment, and materials. 
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of machinery to minimize downtime. 
  • Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed. 
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency and productivity. 
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in machining technology. 
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. 
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining. 
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, and grinders. 
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. 
  • Operates CNC machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. 
  • Starts and observes CNC machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining. 
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using standard metrology equipment. 
  • Fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, servo systems, machine tools, and measuring instruments. 
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly and verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly. 
  • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance. 

Requirements

 

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or technical certification in machining preferred 
  • 5 years of experience in a machine shop environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. 
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, tools, and equipment. 
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Proficiency in production planning and scheduling software. 
  • Knowledge of quality control principles and practices. 
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations in a manufacturing environment
