Role Purpose
We are seeking a passionate Teacher of English committed to delivering high-quality teaching and fostering effective learning across young learner and adult programmes, while supporting the British Council’s mission of cultural relations and educational impact.
Main Accountabilities
We are looking for an experienced Teacher of English to deliver high-quality instruction that meets learner needs and aligns with British Council standards. You will plan and deliver engaging lessons across various formats (face-to-face, online, blended), assess learner progress, and maintain accurate records. The role also involves contributing to course development, participating in professional development, and supporting a positive learning environment. Qualifications & Experience
Essential
▪ Cambridge CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL
▪ Undergraduate degree or equivalent
▪ Equivalent to 2 year’s experience post-certificate (CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL)
• A minimum of 1200+ hours of experience should have been gained from teaching three or more of the following a life stages:
• Early Years aged 4 to 5 (200+hours)
• Primary aged 6 to 9 (400+ hours)
• Lower Secondary aged 10 to 12 (400+ hours)
• Upper Secondary aged 13 to 17 (400+ hours)
• Adults General English 18+ (400+ hours)
Desirable
▪ Recognised diploma in EFL i.e. Cambridge DELTA/Trinity Diploma TESOL
▪ Additional specialist qualifications such as PGCE/B.ED in Primary, TYLEC, Nile Teaching English in Pre-Primary education
▪ Experience in teaching:
• Online (e.g. via Zoom)
• Exam preparation at B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency (400+hours)
• Training and teaching for corporates classes /in-company
• One-to-one teaching
• IELTS preparation (200+hours)
Important Information
▪ Contract Type: 1 Year Fixed Term Contract
▪ Location: Porto, Portugal
▪ Start date: September 2025 (Tentative)
▪ Contract Hours: 3 hours contract (working on every Saturday)
▪ Salary & Benefit:
▪ Monthly Gross Salary: Euro 275.38 to Euro 296.44 (salary scale depending on qualification and experience. The salary is paid for 14 months)
▪ Meal allowance: Euro 1.13 per day
▪ Annual Leaves: Annual paid leave is 35 days fixed into the academic calendar

▪ Language Requirement: High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all four skills equivalent to CEFR C2 / IELTS Band 8/9 in each of the four sections of the academic module.
