Aviation Products Systems is a manufacturing company located in Granite City, IL (St. Louis, MO area). We serve the General Aviation and overall Aerospace markets with our PMA engineered products. We are currently looking for a full-time Machine Shop Manager to join our Operations team, providing leadership and vision for Machine Shop Production, Continuous Improvement and Planning. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Machine Shop Manager functions as the leader and catalyst for driving and implementing exceptional operational excellence.

Overview: 

In this position the individual will have a strong technical background in CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining, and will provide overall responsibility for all resources assigned to the Machine Shop to achieve all quality, cost and service objectives and to guide and develop the business towards further growth.

Duties, tasks and responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of up to 3-5 employees
  • Responsible for organizing, planning and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the shop floor, through working with and delegating to the machinists and operators
  • Ensure maximum efficiency and productivity as well as minimization of delays
  • Oversee roughly 5,000 square foot shop with 5 CNC Haas lathes and 1 Mazak Multiplex 
  • Responsible for scheduling, progress tracking, budgeting and forecasting
  • Driving safety programs on the operational side
  • Responsible to ensure training standards are met for the shop personnel in the use of equipment and software
  • Responsible for the proper order of all materials, parts, supplies, and services necessary for the completion of work projects in accordance with company standards
  • Workforce management; performance management & problem resolution
  • Oversee the streamlining processes to minimize costs, decrease errors and deficiencies and meet deadlines

Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written 
  • Ability to lead, manage and motivate employees in a production environment
  • Ability to lead critical change management skills will be required
  • Must have the analytical ability to research problem areas and special requests
  • Must be a well-organized, detail-oriented self-starter
  • Ability to read and comprehend work specifications, work orders, blueprints, contracts and technical publications 

Education & Experience: 

  • Minimum. ten (10) years of experience in heavy industry & manufacturing.
  • Minimum fifteen (5) years of experience in a supervisory capacity
  • The incumbent must have experience and thorough knowledge of production procedures, and administrative procedures with a background in continuous process improvement
  • Must have experience and a working knowledge of all specific operations of departments, including all machinery and tools

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday 7am to 4pm 

Additional skills that are helpful but not required:

  • OSHA machine safety knowledge
  • General aviation experience and an understanding of aircraft systems 
  • Tool design experience
