ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES: 

Public Safety Officers provide personal and property security for faculty, staff, students and visitors within an assigned area of the College Campus by patrolling areas and enforcing College rules and regulations.   The Public Safety Officer- Lead provides oversight for their respective shift officers and assists with the hiring of Public Safety Offices and Public Safety Service Officers.  

 

**This Public Safety Officer - Lead position involves shift-based scheduling to meet the operational needs. 

 

THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED AS ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Oversees and coordinates public safety activities and operations on the for our college campuses. 
  2. Communicates schedule changes and previous shift activity to the Public Safety team.
  3. Responds to emergency situations, providing first line response and emergency management as required (i.e. contacting proper authorities, adhering to internal communication and notification policies).   
  4. Ensures campus patrols of assigned areas are completed throughout the shift.  Checks for suspicious activity or persons and/or safety/fire hazards and reports same to the Associate Director of Public Safety.   Checks doors, windows and alarm systems to ensure buildings are secured, documenting any issues.
    1. Notes and reports before the end of shift, all unsafe structures, defective property, and dangerous conditions in his/her area, and takes measures to protect the public until the condition has been properly corrected.
    2. Debriefs relief shift on all campus activity and/or incidents.  Ensures complete end of shift detailed reporting of all public safety officers. 
  5. Investigates and/or reports hazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances to Director of Public Safety and Facilities department for correction and follow-up actions.
  6. Observes activity and traffic in assigned area to enforce College rules and regulations; alerts visitors and others of infractions.
    1. When assigned to a residential housing facility, monitors visitor activity to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations.
  7. Escorts service personnel who enter the campus buildings to service any and all equipment, to include, but not limited to fire/burglar alarms, fire sprinkler service personnel and/or fire extinguisher service personnel.  

a. Initiate timely service calls to necessary vendors for service including but not limited to the above items. 

  1. Escorts any staff, faculty or visitor who requests this service when leaving a campus building.
  2. Ensures accurate and complete reports for all incidents occurring on a given shift, are prepared and logged into the incident reporting system and sent to the proper administrators for review and response.
  3. Issues parking permits and enforces all on-campus parking policies and regulations, to include towing and booting when appropriate.
  4. Assists with issuing ID cards including generation of cards for satellite centers. 
  5. Oversees the lost and found and lists all items lost and found in a daily log.
  6. Regulates use and oversees safety and maintenance of all College vehicles, to include, but not limited to inspections, current registrations and current insurance documents.  Overviews and inspects vehicles as they are returned from usage by faculty and staff, for any defects, repairs, damage and other items necessary to maintain coordination of the College vehicle fleet.
  7. Provides supervision with crowd control and surveillance at large public events.
  8. Assists with ‘on-boarding’ of new employees. 
  9. Performs all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:  

  • Associates Degree in criminal justice or similar discipline preferred.
  • Possess a valid PA ACT235 License. 

 

EXPERIENCE:  

  • – Minimum of two years’ experience in organized safety and/or community service work preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL DESIGNATION:  It is to be understood that this position is categorized as “essential” and requires employee’s attendance during snow events, emergency situations (if required) and when the school is closed for business.
