Brief Job Duties:
 The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:

1. Provides learning opportunities for English language acquisition across district curriculum.

2. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to provide customized, small and large group instruction.

3. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to create a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.

4. Regularly assesses each student’s academic and social growth, maintains appropriate and timely records, and prepares progress reports.

5. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means such as newsletters, email, phone calls, student information system postings (as applicable), web pages, blogs, and other electronic means to discuss student’s progress as it relates to curriculum.

6. Secures interpreters and translations of important documents as an additional means for communicating with families.

7. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members to help students assess and benefit from the district curriculum.Coordinates the identification of ELL students based on the district’s LAU plan.

8. Analyze annual WIDA ACCESS scores and uses data to plan and inform instruction and direct programming.

9. Holds LAC meetings when considering program changes for ELL students.

1. Must meet federal definition of a Highly Qualified teacher for the position assigned.

2. Must be eligible for a valid Maine DOE ELL endorsement.

3. Prior teaching experience preferred.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent and Building Leader

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides learning opportunities for English language acquisition across district curriculum.

2. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to provide customized, small and large group instruction.

3. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to create a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.

4. Regularly assesses each student’s academic and social growth, maintains appropriate and timely records, and prepares progress reports.

5. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means such as newsletters, email, phone calls, student information system postings (as applicable), web pages, blogs, and other electronic means to discuss student’s progress as it relates to curriculum.

6. Secures interpreters and translations of important documents as an additional means for communicating with families.

7. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members to help students assess and benefit from the district curriculum.

8. Creates an effective learning environment through a variety of learning tools.

9. Continues professional growth through various means such as professional learning communities, conferences, workshops, professional memberships and readings, etc.

10. Selects and budgets books, instructional supplies, equipment and technology based on best practices aligned with the district curriculum.

11. Administers standardized and common assessments in accordance with district and state assessment schedules.

12. Participates in professional development in order to advance the vision and mission of the district.

13. Regular participation on school and/or district committees is strongly encouraged.

14. Regularly utilizes student data to inform instruction.

15. Maintains technological proficiency for purposes of instruction, reporting and communicating.

16. Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles.

17. Facilitates critical thinking, problem solving and creativity skills.

18. Advances the vision, the mission and school improvement efforts of the school district.

19. Participates in parent conferences, open houses, and other required school events based on the responsibilities of the assigned position.

20. Shows evidence of understanding and applying language acquisition with emphasis on content vocabulary.

21. Shows evidence of sensitivity to cultural backgrounds and customs.

22. Coordinates identification of ELL students based on the district’s LAU plan.

23. Analyze annual WIDA ACCESS scores and uses data to plan and inform instruction and direct programming.

24. Holds LAC meetings when considering program changes for ELL students.

25. Collaborates with other school staff to coordinate services and provide support for other school staff in order to best meet the needs of ELL students in all school settings.

26. Other job-related duties as assigned by the Building Leader.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Per the most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement.

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Committee’s policy on Evaluation of Teachers.
