About Children’s Tutoring Initiative:

The Children’s Tutoring Initiative (CTI) is an in-school literacy tutoring program designed to support elementary students who are reading below grade level. We partner with schools and community organizations to connect trained volunteer tutors with students, ensuring every child gains the reading skills needed for long-term success.

Position Overview
The Tutor Success and Program Support Specialist ensures the success, sustainability, and growth of CTI by supporting, engaging, and retaining tutors while fostering strong relationships with schools, families, and community partners. This role manages tutor onboarding, provides ongoing support, implements retention and recognition strategies, resolves program challenges, and coordinates events that enhance CTI’s impact. Combining operational efficiency with mission-driven purpose, the position plays a key role in strengthening the program’s reach and effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

Tutor and Program Support
• Oversee tutor onboarding, including background checks, communication, and
placement.
• Provide ongoing guidance, communication, and encouragement to tutors and
volunteer coordinators.
• Maintain accurate records of tutor and student participation, attendance, and
progress.
• Coordinate tutoring schedules and address any conflicts promptly.
• Manage tutoring materials and ensure timely delivery to schools.

Tutor Retention and Engagement
• Design and implement monthly tutor recognition and retention activities.
• Conduct regular check-ins with volunteers to assess needs and gather feedback.
• Celebrate achievements through newsletters, events, and social media spotlights.
• Works collaboratively with CTI team to create a welcoming and inclusive
environment that keeps volunteers engaged long-term.

Communications
• Develop and distribute newsletters, updates, and resources for tutors, schools, and
families.
• Assist in creating promotional materials for recruitment and community outreach.
• Respond to inquiries from prospective tutors, families, and community members.

Event Planning and Family Engagement
• Plan and organize events such as tutor trainings, recognition ceremonies, student
showcases, and literacy workshops.
• Coordinate logistics including venues, catering, transportation, and volunteer
staffing.
• Foster connections between tutors, families, and school staff to strengthen student
support.
• Gather and analyze event feedback to improve future programming.
• Recruit and manage volunteers for events and programs.

Qualifications
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Passion for education, literacy, and community building.
• Familiarity with the Columbus, Ohio education landscape preferred.
• Prior experience in volunteer management, event planning, program coordination,
or community engagement.
