Duties
Oversees curriculum implementation and program quality for Child and Youth Programs, including child development centers, family childcare homes, and youth programs. Ensures alignment with DoD/AF regulations, national accreditation standards, and the developmental needs of children and youth. Mentors and coaches staff and providers in developing age-appropriate learning environments, classroom management, and positive social interactions, and promotes family engagement across all programs. Develops and executes a flight-wide professional development plan based on program needs, observations, and regulatory requirements. Designs, delivers, and evaluates training using adult learning principles through workshops, coaching, mentoring, and individualized support. Ensures staff maintain required certifications and tracks all training milestones, including orientation, annual training, and credentialing progress. Supports inclusion by ensuring legal compliance (IDEA), developing individualized support plans, coordinating with specialists (e.g., Military Family Life Counselors), and training staff on managing complex behaviors and medical needs. They provide technical assistance and ensure equitable care for children with and without disabilities. Enhances program operations, leads quality improvement efforts by evaluating programs using assessment tools, guiding corrective action plans, and supporting accreditation processes with national accrediting bodies (e.g., NAEYC, COA, NAFCC). Conducts internal reviews and serves as the primary contact for inspections and developmental assessments. Fosters partnerships with installation agencies and external organizations to address concerns, support family needs, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and child welfare standards. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: ALL LEVELS Must be a high school graduate, or equivalent; and be able to provide proof (i.e., diploma or equivalent) for verification. AND (1) A 4-year degree in Early Childhood Education or Child/Youth Development or a related field such as Elementary Education, Special Education, Family and Consumer Science (Early Childhood emphasis) AND 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth. OR (2) A combination of education (at least 24 semester hours) and experience, or additional course work, that that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above AND 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth. (3) Knowledge of early childhood or youth education principles, concepts, and techniques to develop, interpret, monitor, and evaluate the execution of curriculum and age-appropriate activities. (4) Knowledge of adult learning techniques and strategies and experience training adult learners. (5) Ability to support DoD certification, accreditation, and staff credentialing Child Development Associate (CDA), Associate of Arts (AA) Degree) by ensuring that required training is administered and successfully accomplished to meet statutory and program requirements. Must have the ability to supervise and provide guidance and leadership to employees and providers. Ability to identify and respond to emergency situations including evacuations, child illness, and physical and emotional disorders. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills
Education
(1) A 4-year degree in Early Childhood Education or Child/Youth Development or a related field such as Elementary Education, Special Education, Family and Consumer Science (Early Childhood emphasis) AND 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth. OR (2) A combination of education (at least 24 semester hours) and experience, or additional course work, that that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above AND 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

Child Development Program will provide 100% child care fee discount for all CYP direct care staff for the first child enrolled in a full-time or regular part-time DAF CDP. A 25% discount will apply for any additional children of direct care staff. Direct care staff must spend a minimum of 75% of their work schedule in the classroom including flex employees who average 15 hours a week.
