Summary/Objective

The Cost Accountant is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting financial data related to production costs, inventory, and profitability. This role ensures accuracy in cost allocation, supports budgeting and forecasting, and provides management with insights to optimize operational efficiency and profitability.

Essential Functions

1. Develop, maintain, and analyze product cost standards for materials, labor, and overhead.
2. Prepare and analyze cost variance reports, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
3. Monitor and reconcile cost of goods sold (COGS) accounts.
4. Track, analyze, and report on manufacturing costs and production efficiencies.
5. Monitor and ensure accuracy in inventory valuation and costing methods.
6. Provide cost data and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
7. Prepare and maintain financial statements, reports, and records in accordance with applicable regulations.
8. Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, including reconciliations.
9. Generate PPV reports and analyze findings.
10. Analyze cost of raw materials and other supplies and create cost-benefit analyses for changing vendors.
11. Establish standard costs and update them as appropriate.
12. Any/all other duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing/office environment. Must be able to operate a computer/keyboard, ability to use phone, and sit for extended periods of time. Communicate using speech, hearing, written, and vision skills. May also work occasionally on the production floor requiring the use of safety equipment to include, but not limited to- safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toed work boots or shoes.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. The standard working hours for exempt employees are set at 45 hours per week with an additional 30-minute lunch break each day. General business hours are 6:30 am- 5:00 pm. this position follows a specific work schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 am- 4:30 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to meet business demands.

Compensation

Our current hiring pay range for this position is $80,000- $100,000. This hiring pay range is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and, in some instances, may include education, work experience, knowledge, skills and certifications.

In addition to this base pay, Rockford Ball Screw employees are eligible for a bonus. Depending on your position you may be categorized into different tiers in the quarterly or annual bonus plan. Currently, this position is classified as a Quarterly Bonus within the Individual Contributor tier.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

1. Bachelor’s in Business, Accounting or Finance or significant relevant work experience. 
2. Strong knowledge of computer programs; Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, AS/400, MAPICS, or other financial type software
3. Strong knowledge of GAAP and costing principles

Preferred Education and Experience

1. 3+ years’ experience in Accounting, manufacturing experience
