PRIMARY PURPOSE:


The job of Academic & Behavioral Support Paraprofessional is to provide classroom support to the instructional program and mediate student behavioral issues or conflicts for the purpose of reinforcing student expectations ensuring an increase in academic content understanding & retention, and a positive learning environment for all students. Goals specifically surround increasing academic success and growth on STAAR and Universal Screeners.


QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED. If a college graduate, must provide copy of college transcript or diploma with date and type of degree.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work with children.
Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
Knowledge of general office equipment

 

Experience:
Some experience working with children

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

1. Uphold and enforce school rules, policies and procedures, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.

 

2. Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.

 

3. Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.

 

4. Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.

 

5. Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.

 

6. Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.

 

7. Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.

 

8. Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.

 

9. Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.

 

10. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed.

 

11. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

 

12. Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct as described in board policy.

 

13. Observe professional and ethical standards, in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Professional Educators Code of Ethics.

 

14. Assists in monitoring and supervising school facilities for the purpose of maintaining a safe school environment for students, staff, and patrons and the efficiency of school operations.

15. Collaborates with administrative team by sharing information, building strong relationships with staff and students, and supporting the mission and vision of the district.

 

16. Communicates with instructional specialists and counselor to assist in implementation of system of support (multi-tiered system of support) for the purpose of monitoring and documenting strategies and learning of all identified students.

 

17. Build familiarity, trust, and relationships with students and staff.

 

18. Reports issues or incidents to admin team as necessary for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to state and district policies.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

 

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the student, staff, and campus


WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Mental Demands:
Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal); maintain emotional control under stress

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
