Description

Miami Country Day School seeks enthusiastic and creative educators to teach private lessons after school to begin immediately. The Arts Program at Miami Country Day School is well-respected in our community and nationally. We are currently moved into a new 35,000 square foot Center for the Arts with 600+ seats theater/concert hall and Arts classrooms all under one roof. This venue enables the Miami Country Day community to showcase its award-winning artists, musicians, dancers and thespians. In addition, the school has an amphitheater for outdoor performances.

 

The successful candidate needs to be passionate about performance-based, student-centered learning and be committed to combining the power of forward-thinking skill development with the purposeful integration of ensemble based collaborative learning. We seek an enthusiastic, collaborative and collegial professional who embodies our mission and who is passionate about working with our students and faculty.

 

The school is accredited by FKC, FCIS and SACS; active membership is maintained in SACAC, NACAC, NAIS, SAIS, CASE, CRIS, ERB, American Library Association and the College Board.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Candidates must have a record that demonstrates professional performance and teaching experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for instrument educational support via group and individual instruction in wind, string or drum set instruments. The specialist would work primarily one on one (and sometimes small groups) to assist students in developing proper playing techniques. Additional responsibilities include communication parents and MCDS music teachers. Ideal candidates are expected to have at least four years of experience teaching and a desire to model a love for music. The position has a somewhat flexible schedule.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS:

 

  • Ability to work with student musicians at all skill levels and differentiate to meet the needs of individuals, including selecting appropriate instructional materials and/or music.
  • Strong instrumental performance/demonstration skills.
  • Evaluates and monitors each student’s musical growth
  • Maintain care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Communicate necessary information and feedback to students in a developmentally appropriate way
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development, providing timely feedback to students
  • Must possess a strong commitment to collaboration and effective teamwork within the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion. Must be professional at setting priorities and coping with competing demands.
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, solution-oriented and positive demeanor.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.

Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

 

  • Minimum BA in Music or Music Education w/ Instrumental Pedagogy Background preferred.
  • At least 4 years woodwind teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching in an Independent School preferred
  • Collaborate and create with a team of fellow professionals for the enhancement of common artistic goals and educational experiences.
  • Communicate effectively verbally, in writing and in person to foster a collegial relationship with all production coordinators and school personnel involved in events, programs and productions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
  • Must be able to use computer for communication and instruction.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Work in a fast-paced, stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • A lifelong learner willing to balance experience with the demands of a new environment.
  • A willingness to understand and support the school’s mission and vision, as well as recognize impact the climate and culture of the school have on the work of the Center for the Arts.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of various constituencies within the school community and the skills and attitude to deliver an exemplary experience to all students, parents and colleagues.
  • Be able to lift 20 pounds and occasionally up to 30 lbs.
  • Work in varied and extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat.
