GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This purpose of this position is to provide services and information to crime victims and witnesses within the County and within the city jurisdictions of Salem, Walhalla, Westminster, and West Union. Collaborate with various agencies to provide safeguarding measures for victims through SC State Law. Maintain victim caseloads and manage Project Lifesaver created for Alzheimer’s and Autistic and Down Syndrome clients.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Advise crime victims of their legal rights and maintain caseloads.
- Provide escort services to and from Magistrate’s and Municipal Courtrooms.
- Provide assistance to families in court.
- Assist victims in the completion of required court documents.
- Assist victims apply for compensation.
- Provide transportation for victims relocating to various shelters.
- Manage the Project Lifesaver program.
- Public Speaking and participate in fundraising efforts for non-profit organizations. Serve on various boards for non-profit organizations.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of SC criminal laws and laws pertaining to crime victims;
- Victim Services certification;
- Knowledge of County policies and procedures;
- Basic computer skills;
- Good customer service and interpersonal skills;
- Knowledge of court procedures and ability to accurately complete legal documents;
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
- Have arrest powers and carry a firearm while on duty.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- The educational requirement for this position is: Associate’s degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education with emphasis in social work, criminal justice, or a closely related field. Preferred experience in related field if no college background.
- Education may be substituted for experience.
- Related-experience required: No experience required.
- Experience yes substituted for education. Requires over two years and up to and including four years.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: Certifications, licenses, professional designations, or other qualifications required for this position include:
- Victim Services Certification required by the state of SC
Certifications, licenses, professional designations, or other qualifications preferred for this position include:
- Law Enforcement Certification
- Valid SC Driver’s License

- Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)
- Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)
