Indiana University of Pennsylvania(IUP) invites internal applications for a Plumber 2 position. This posting is for internal bidders only.
This position involves skilled and technical work in the installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of plumbing and steam systems, fixtures, and components in IUP campus buildings and other university facilities. Work involves planning, coordinating, and executing complex plumbing and pipefitting installation and repair projects involving pipe systems and requires the application of regulations, codes, materials, installation, and testing procedures that are specific to the project a type of piping system and may involve the assigning, overseeing, and reviewing related work performed by lower-level employees during these projects. Work also includes both scheduled preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance repair during regular business hours as well as unscheduled, emergency maintenance repair after hours.

8:00am - 4:30pm
This is an Emergency Essential position.
- Performs inspections, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of plumbing and sewer systems, plumbing fittings and fixtures, and plumbing and piping components in all IUP owned buildings and facilities including but not limited to sinks, commodes, urinals, faucets, flush valves, traps, drains, valves, pumps, piping, piping systems and associated plumbing and wastewater discharge equipment and infrastructure.
- Performs inspections, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of central and building heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems related equipment, fixtures, distribution and collection systems both underground and in buildings and appurtenances including but not limited to: piping, traps, fittings, pumps, connections, boilers, boiler components convectors, steam generators, sterilizers, valves, pressure reducing stations, expansion joints, steam cookers, condensate pumps piping, piping systems, controls and associated steam equipment and infrastructure.
- Plans and executes plumbing and pipefitting repair, replacement, remodeling, and installation projects and tasks including coordinating, assigning, overseeing, and reviewing plumbing related work by lower-level employees during these projects.
- Creates plumbing and pipefitting installation diagrams and drawings and tests and inspects completed work.
- Assists steam plant personnel in the repair, maintenance and/or operation of steam equipment in the boiler plant and performs other work associated with the operation of steam distribution systems and steam operated equipment.
- Installs and tests water line backflow preventors in accordance with the Pennsylvania American Water’s Cross Connection and Backflow Prevention program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Duties
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Five years of experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing components and fixtures including two years performing plumbing installation and repair assignments independently in commercial, industrial, or multi-unit residential structures.;
or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes two years performing plumbing installation and repair assignments independently in commercial, industrial, or multi-unit residential structures.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
- Possession, at the time of application, or obtain, within 18 months of the date of hire, a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators as a water or wastewater operator that is equal to or greater than the classification and sub classification of the water/wastewater system to be operated or maintained. Certification must be continuously maintained for the duration of employment in the position.
- Possession, at the time of application, or obtain, within six months of the date of hire a valid ASSE #5110 certification to test backflow preventors or a valid ASSE #5130 certification to repair backflow preventors. Certifications must be continuously maintained for the duration of employment in the position.

Minimum Qualifications
- Communicate both orally and in writing to issue, receive and carry out instructions and orders effectively and to convey information to a variety of co-workers and the public.
- Work in adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, dust, and snow for extended hours in response to emergency conditions.
- Work in, on, and around hazardous situations such as: active heavy equipment, traffic, heights, steep grades, ladders, and uneven surfaces.
- Use hand tools such as hammers and pry bars; and take and transport material samples.
- Withstand exposure to chemical agents, exhaust gases and lubricants, solvents, poisonous plants, animals, and insects; and sustain potential injuries such as bruises, scrapes, cuts, strains, and sprains.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, stretch, and prolonged sitting or standing.
- Wear various types of required protective gear/equipment such as a hard hats, footgear, hearing and eye protection, gloves, and respirators.
- Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.
- Perform manual duties such as lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Provide assistance and guidance to internal and external customers.

- Any Part-time Regular Plumber 2 employee of an opportunity to submit a bid for Full-time status; or
- Any Full-time Temporary Plumber 1 employee of an opportunity to submit a bid for a Regular Plumber 2 with benefits; or
- Any Part-time Regular Plumber 1 employee of an opportunity to submit a bid for promotion to a Full-time Plumber 2 position.
