GENERAL SUMMARY

Responsible for supervising maintenance staff to ensure that vehicles are repaired in an efficient manner in order to meet the daily and evening mark out requirements (mark out refers to the scheduled times that buses are assigned to begin their route).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

 

Employee essential job duties and responsibilities are required to be performed onsite at the KCATA. (onsite / field / satellite locations)

 

  1. Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.  
  2. Oversees operations of collision repair shop, support equipment mechanics, and revenue collection services. Oversee operations of collision repair shop, support equipment mechanics, and revenue collection services.
  3. Schedules vehicles for repairs and/or preventative maintenance.
  4. Performs all record-keeping functions, including vehicle inspection, repair, and maintenance documents, personnel-related forms, work orders, and timecards as required by the Maintenance Management Information System. 
  5. Ensures employees have materials, parts, and tools needed to perform a job efficiently and in a timely manner.
  6. Enters purchase requisition data for the Fleet Maintenance Department.
  7. Monitors radio system and communicates with the Transportation Department and Road Mechanics concerning road calls and other transit needs. 
  8. Other duties as assigned.

 


 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees (1 or more full-time employees) including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/ effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed.  

 

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY 

  • Position has limited fiscal responsibility. May assist in the collection of data in support of recommendations for departmental budget allocations. May monitor division or program/promotional level budget and expenditures.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
  • At least one (1) to three (3) years of related work experience in fleet and maintenance operations.  
  • An equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

 

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Class A CDL with Air Brake endorsement preferred

  • Troubleshoot, repair, install, and remove various types of mechanical units, using a variety of tools
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing 
  • Produce clear and accurate estimates

 

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • May work in a normal office environment. Will sometimes be required to work and/or attend meetings or events in public and at all RideKC locations.
  • Varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.
  • Occasional abnormal hours are expected and required for specific events and to reach all employees.

 

TRAVEL   

  • Travel within the metropolitan area is required.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • This position requires occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards and is generally sedentary. Incumbents may be required to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
