The Communications, Outreach, and Training Coordinator oversees daily activities of agency marketing and promotion to increase awareness, access, and community engagement. Follows communications best practices and emerging techniques to raise the agency’s profile in the community. This position facilitates and coordinates training in the community and within the agency, ensuring that trainings are educational, high quality, diverse, and in accordance with our agency’s mission and facilitates and coordinates community outreach and engagement. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Communications:

  1. Publications – Draft and/or coordinate the creation and printing of agency materials, brochures and documents. Collaborate with departments on distribution of materials. Create marketing materials as needed to support special events, programs, & fundraising.
  2. Communications - Oversee a marketing and communications program that increases visibility of Journey Center through electronic and traditional communications. Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient and high-quality communications. Convey Journey impact and unmet needs to explore and secure diversified funding opportunities.
  3. Social media – Oversee the administration of all current and future accounts. Respond to all social media inquiries and direct messages. Manage Communications Contractor who develops content to creatively educate and engage clients, donors, and community. Strives to increase presence and followers and maintain content calendar. 
  4. Brand - Act as agency brand manager, responsible for assuring proper branding standards are followed throughout all communications and promotional materials.
  5. Newsletter – oversee maintenance of MailChimp platform and audience as well as the creation and distribution of content.
  6. Media – Build and maintain relationships with local radio, print, web, and television media. Maintain media outreach and contact list. Create and distribute press releases. Promote agency messaging to build awareness and community presence and establish Journey Center as an expert in the field.
  7. Website – Maintain website. Update information as necessary to increase engagement and awareness.
  8. Build awareness of and engagement with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, National Stalking Awareness Month, Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and Child Abuse Prevention Month.
  9. Create campaigns, messaging, and events for awareness months.
  10. Track metrics and performance.

Outreach:

  1. Outreach/Awareness - Represent Journey Center in community as needed. Collaborate with agency staff to schedule community presentations and resource tables. 
  2. Promote Journey Center through community presentations, seminars, conferences, internal trainings and meetings.
  3. Track metrics and performance.

Training:

  1. Provide presentations and trainings on topics to include: domestic violence, teen dating violence, stalking, trauma-informed care, healthy relationships, and child abuse, etc. Work with departments to ensure effective and successful trainings. 
  2. Respond to requests and schedule community training presentations.
  3. Establish training schedules; disseminate and follow up on training announcements; create agendas and objectives; record/report attendance.
  4. Track metrics and performance.

Other:

  1. Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in field by attending continuing education seminars and trainings in the community.
  2. Utilize best practices/evidence-based curricula to train both internal Journey Center staff and external community stakeholders.
  3. Ensure goals, targets and performance outcomes are met or exceeded on monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Report as needed.
  4. Support CDMO as needed and assume additional responsibilities as needed or directed.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  2. Complete agency orientation and training to meet job requirements
  3. Assumes other responsibilities and duties as directed or assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in gender-based violence prevention or survivor advocacy
  2. Experience working with victims of domestic violence and child abuse preferred
  3. Must have and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license and appropriate insurance coverage; Must maintain appropriate driving record
  4. Must be available for extended and non-traditional work hours; Ability to tailor work hours to meet needs of families. Will require working some evening and weekend hours.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics

  1. Experience working with victims of domestic violence and child abuse or equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Demonstrates sound judgment and outstanding interpersonal skills
  3. Emotional maturity, stability, personal integrity, initiative and resourcefulness
  1. Excellent public speaker, as well as written communicator; exhibits an open, ethical, and direct communication style
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  3. Ability to work collaboratively with internal staff & external stakeholders with the utmost professionalism and within tight deadlines
  4. Ability to make sensitive and insightful observations of individuals and to determine a course of intervention
  5. Highly regarded track record of developing and maintaining positive, supportive relationships within the community
  6. Ability to address crisis situations which require prompt decision and action

  1. Ability to perform job responsibilities in a facility with multiple levels and without elevators
  2. Must be able to provide services at various locations and provide client transportation using agency vehicles
  3. Communicate with others in person, electronically, or by phone on a consistent basis
