Environmental Consulting & Technology, Inc. (ECT) is looking for an on-call Ecologist/Biologist to help expand our Natural Resources operations. Successful candidates will be able to conduct field work and assist with organizing field projects. On-call positions are temporary, interim job positions to supplement our workforce or assist with the completion of a specific project on a full- or part-time basis.  Positions may be field- or office-related, and employment beyond any initially stated period does not imply a change in employment status.

This position will support our West Region. The ideal candidate will be located within proximity to the Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, or central Texas (Austin / San Antonio) area. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Complete field work for environmental studies (e.g., wetland delineations, vegetation mapping, wildlife surveys, threatened and endangered species habitat assessments, and ecological surveys and monitoring) for variety of clients.
  • Record, enter, organize, and analyze ecological/environmental data.
  • Potential to perform office-based environmental studies and assist with report preparation. 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, ecology, botany, or closely related environmental field.
  • Required 1-3 years of experience related to wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species habitat assessments, wildlife surveys, and vegetation community identification.

Job Essentials:

  • Self-motivated individual with sound professional judgement that can work as part of a team. 
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing circumstances, and follow field processes/protocols.
  • Excellent attention to detail, verbal communication skills, and GPS understanding required.
  • Strong field skills, including the ability to navigate in difficult terrain using aerial maps.
  • Travel will be dependent on project demands but likely average 80–90 percent of time worked, with potential for travel outside of Texas. Willingness to conduct work in remote areas is essential.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, potentially work long days, and work in various environmental conditions, such as areas in and around water, areas with rough terrain, and during varying weather conditions.
  • Valid Driver's license with clean driving record required.
