About the Department

The highly rated Lake Oswego Public Library is seeking On-Call Librarians (maximum 20 hours a week) to join its team of committed, enthusiastic, and creative professionals who work together to provide excellent customer service. Under the supervision of the Adult Services Manager and/or Youth Services Manager, this position will work with colleagues to fulfill the library’s mission to inspire discovery and cultivate wellbeing by welcoming all people to read, learn and connect. Duties include assisting patrons of all ages at the children’s, adult reference, and adult fiction desks and at outreach visits to senior living facilities, schools, childcares, and other community partners. We are looking for librarians who are available to work evenings, weekends, and around holidays.

  • Bi-lingual in Mandarin, Spanish, or Korean and English.

Position Duties

  1. Answers in-person, telephone, and email reference and reader’s advisory questions, using the Library’s collections and online resources.
  2. Assists with bookmobile and other library outreach visits.
  3. Provides one-on-one technology assistance to patrons in the library and at outreach visits.
  4. Assists in implementing special events and creating displays and booklists.
  5. Submits inter-library loan requests for patrons.
  6. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Minimum Qualifications

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation with a Master’s degree in Library Science, Educational Media, or an equivalent level of education and work experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Compensation:

Starting compensation will be $26.35 per hour. This position is on-call and thus there are no benefits or accruals associated with the position, with the exception of Oregon sick leave.
