Thurston County Pretrial Services seeks a Pretrial Services Officer I as part of its Pretrial Screening and Supervision Team. This team provides information to Thurston County courts and supervises justice-involved clients with the goals of ensuring that these individuals successfully appear in court and remain arrest-free while on pretrial release.
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conducting screenings for individuals involved in criminal cases by conducting record checks, verifying information, and completing pretrial risk assessments.
- Monitoring client compliance with court ordered conditions of release, based on risk classification system.
- Making referrals to community services providers.
- Verifying that court orders have been followed, including documenting compliance and recommended actions.
- Accessing criminal history databases.
- Maintaining accurate files and ensuring court documentation is filed in a timely manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work Environment – Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Position may experience extended periods of sitting and/or standing.
- Schedule - Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Workload demands may occasionally require work outside the assigned work hours.
- Travel Requirements - Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings or trainings.
- Customer Interactions - Daily interactions via phone, in-person, and video with members of the public, justice partners, and team members. May come into contact with individuals who are argumentative and in highly emotional situations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in behavioral or social sciences, criminal justice or public administration. Additional years of experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
- Must have completed course work in substance use, mental health, and/or domestic violence studies.
- Three (3) years of experience in the criminal justice or social services field interviewing, counseling or supervising justice-involved individuals.
- Must be able to pass background clearance to for access to enter corrections facility and run criminal record history.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Knowledge of local, state & federal criminal laws, confidentiality requirements, local court rules and administrative codes.
- Knowledge of legal and evidence-based pretrial service practices.
- Knowledge of casework duties including investigation and supervision of justice-involved individuals.
- Knowledge of objectives, goals, and detailed processes of the pretrial release function and its interrelationship with the other parts of the court system, criminal justice system, and outside agencies.
- Ability to establish priorities and work independently.
