II. Job Summary: The Hazmat Specialist reports directly to the EHS Environmental Supervisor, performing safety inspections, daily walk throughs in the plant to observe and correct unsafe behaviors. The incumbents are to report serious safety hazards to the Manager to seek their direction and guidance in resolving the hazard(s). The Specialist will be responsible to conduct daily inspections of the HAZWASTE Central Accumulation Area as well as all Satillite Accumulation Areas. The Hazmat Specialist will be responsible for inspection of PPE, safety equipment and special projects as assigned. Specific reports to be designated as needed by the EH&S Manager. | |||||||||||
III. Job Functions and Duties | |||||||||||

1 | Perform periodic facility walk-thrus: 1.1 Complete scheduled walk-thrus of the HWCAA & SAA's on a daily basis. 1.2 Observe work environment for environmental or safety hazards. 1.3 Provide corrective actions to eliminate hazard. 1.4 Report any unusual environmental or safety issues to the EH&S Specialists for review and direction. 1.5 Document hazards, corrective actions, and status of hazards. | ||||||||||
2 | Conduct training as needed: 2.1 Become familiar with training materials to be an effective trainer. 2.2 Conduct training for staff on hazardous waste handling, spill response and emergency procedures. 2.3 Schedule and coordinate regulatory required trainings such as DOT, RCRA, HAZWOPER. 2.4 Conduct testing to validate understanding. 2.5 Maintain attendance list of all employees. | ||||||||||
3 | Conduct hygiene testing as needed: 3.1 Review schedule of hygiene sampling list. 3.2 Complete sampling by target date. 3.3 Classify and properly identify hazardous waste streams, including proper labeling. Waste profiling for disposal. 3.4 Maintain proper storage conditions for hazardous waste including segregations, secondary containment and temperature controls. 3.5 Coordinate with certified waste disposal companies for safe and compliant waste disposal. 3.6 Implement waste minimization programs to reduce hazardous waste generation. 3.7 Monitor waste streams for opportunities to reuse, recycle and recover materials. 3.8 Develop and implement emergency response plans for spills and other incidents. | ||||||||||
4 | Record Keeping: 4.1 Maintain Daily HWCAA Temperature logs on file. 4.2 Maintain all DOT transportation record forms on file for 3 years. 4.3 Maintain all EPA (RCRA) records and forms on file for 3 years. 4.4 Maintain any other records or forms required by regulatory requirements. | ||||||||||
5 | Assist EHS management in achieving and maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications. Aim to continually improve the EHS management systems. | ||||||||||

Job Requirements | Language | Languages spoken commonly in the workplace are English and/or Mandarin. Ability to read, understand and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to speak effectively and interact with other team members, engineers, leadership and customers. | |||||||||
Experience | 1 to 3 years manufacturing experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. | ||||||||||
Education | High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). | ||||||||||
Physical Condition | The employee is regularly required o stand for long periods. Duties include turning at the waist, reaching, bending, squatting and lifting up to 50 pounds. Ability to pass static strength requirements (grip). Visual acuity including, but not limited to: a. NEAR ACUITY - Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Use this factor when special and minute accuracy is demanded. b. FAR ACUITY - Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Use this factor when visual efficiency in terms of far acuity is required in day and night/dark conditions. c. DEPTH PERCEPTION - Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. d. COLOR VISION - Ability to identify and distinguish colors. e. FIELD OF VISION - Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Safety requirements for this position are safety glasses, hearing protection and steel-toed work boots. | ||||||||||
Other Requirements | MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. REASONING ABILITY - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables. COMPUTER SKILLS - Knowledge of and familiarity manufacturing software. | ||||||||||
