San Diego Superior Court is seeking additional qualified candidates for the position of Accounting Specialist.
There is currently one (1) Accounting Specialist vacancy approved to be filled based at East County, 250 East Main Street, in El Cajon.
New eligible candidates resulting from this new application period will be added to the current list, and may be used to fill other subsequent Accounting Specialist positions as they occur and are approved to be filled.
Accounting Specialists may be assigned to work in any of the following court locations: Central Courthouse and/or Hall of Justice (downtown San Diego); Kearny Mesa Branch; North County Division (Vista); East County Division (El Cajon); and South County Division (Chula Vista).
JOB SUMMARY
An Accounting Specialist performs paraprofessional accounting work; maintains accounts receivable and accounts payable records; and makes routing allocations to trust accounts and prepares claims for distribution of funds.
Typical duties may include but are not limited to: receiving and counting cash, checks, negotiables, and credit payments; tabulating register receipts and resolving discrepancies; crediting and reconciling court and trust accounts and allocating funds as necessary; preparing journal entries and claims for fund transfers and disbursements; preparing other administrative adjustments in budget appropriations; balancing accounts, funds, groups, and researching errors by checking previous entries, records, and supporting documents; comparing the beginning balance and a recap of daily transactions with the ending balance to ensure that all deposits, journal entries, claims, desk warrants, and tapes are posted accurately; maintaining a variety of financial records including trust fund balances, accounts receivable, accounts payable, equipment or fixed assets inventories, fund appropriations and expenditures, and similar accounting, financial and statistical records; compiling data for purposes of budget preparation, state and federal reimbursement claims, and special schedules; analyzing and reconciling a variety of financial transactions and statements; preparing and reviewing revenue estimates, expenditures and fund conditions; receiving, accounting for, and distributing cash receipts; preparing reports, correspondence, procedural manuals and instructional guides.
The IDEAL CANDIDATE should have the following:
KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic accounting principles, procedures and terminology; governmental accounting and budgeting; modern office methods, procedures and equipment; general knowledge of the legal requirements and the accounting system related to a particular assignment may be required for certain positions; some familiarity with accounting software/applications; operation of desktop PC, modern spreadsheet and word processing applications.
ABILITY TO: Perform paraprofessional accounting work with minimal supervision; prepare accurate financial summaries and reports; determine proper accounting codes and classification for transactions; make arithmetical calculations quickly and accurately; perform research to resolve problems and correct errors; count cash and negotiables quickly and accurately; maintain controls on complex records and analyze data; analyze and understand data processing reports; understand and apply the principles and procedures involved in the bookkeeping and auditing functions; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; review and consolidate records from multiple sources and summarize into reports, abstracts and other accounting documents; and reconcile differences within record keeping systems using mathematical skills and understanding of the record keeping systems and related transactions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field such as finance, business administration or economics;
