SUMMARY:

Operates computed tomography (CT) scanner to produce high quality cross-sectional images of patient’s anatomy for diagnostic purposes by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

(Including the following. Other duties may be assigned).

*Always preform a dual patient identity (name and birthdate).

*Always maintain a professional attitude when taking on Stats and fitting in a patient when needed.

*Administers contrast media orally and/or administering a line for intravenous contrast.

*Must be proficient in starting, maintaining and safely administering IV contrast.

*Enter data such as type of scan requested, adjust scan data (slice thickness, scan time, and other technical factors into the operator’s console.

*Position and immobilize the patient on the exam table, using supportive devices to obtain precise patient positioning and follow protocols specified by the Radiologist.

*Select the correct CT protocol for scanning the proper anatomic region ordered by the referring physician.

*Be able to communicate with the patient both face to face and over the intercom system. Consistently observe the patient through the control room window to ensure patient safety especially when administering IV contrast.

*Review all images obtained to ensure image quality and no gross pathology is seen.

*Competency in using iStat blood analyzer to obtain creatinine and GFR levels.

*Drug/Crash Cart- must be able to identify and know the use of the items in the crash cart and possess the ability to assist the Radiologist and/or nursing staff during a contrast reaction/emergency in an effective manner.

*Must be knowledgeable in the fundamentals and comfortable in the everyday use of PACS, RIS, and Management pages and possess the general computer skills required to complete the tasks at hand.

*Must have the ability to burn CD’s from either the scanner or PACS in both viewer and DICOM format. Plus, as import data from CD’s to the scanner.

*When possible assist in lift help in other departments.

*Will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining all appropriate certifications.

*Required to stay current on any and all Continuing Education (ECE’s).

*Follows all ARRT and State of Michigan guidelines by completing Annual BLS and *OSHA/Blood Borne pathogen certifications, plus all RMI S.O.P. and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be able to work independently without direct supervision and make adjustment to the scanning protocol when there isn’t a manager within the building and unable to reach by phone.

Education and/or experience: Two years of College or Technical train program approved by J-Cert and/or ARRT. Board Certification in both Radiology (R) and Computed Tomography (CT).

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintaining instructions and procedure manuals. Abiltiy to write routine reports, histories and answer internal e-mails. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers and understand their response.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.

Physical Demands: Must be able to carry objects up to 50 lbs. stand, stoop, lift and walk without restrictions

Shift: Second (2 pm to 10 pm), FT
