The Prince George’s County Office of Central Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Deputy Fleet Manager (Administrative Specialist 1G), grade G29, in the Fleet Management Division.
About the Position
This is a managerial position responsible for providing key management level administrative and technical support to the Fleet Manager. The incumbent will also assist the Fleet Manager in the overall management of a comprehensive, diversified fleet for the county government. Fleet Management responsibilities include but are not limited to vehicle assignment review and recommendations, petroleum management, policy and procedures development, and vehicle replacement recommendations. The Division maintains 3,200 vehicles including administrative and public safety sedans, buses, trucks, and motorcycles, providing general light and heavy repairs, accident repairs, preventive maintenance service. Vehicle emissions inspection towing, road service and component rebuilding. Work is performed under general supervision and performance is evaluated in terms to its overall contribution to managerial improvement and organizational efficiency.

The Office of Central Services is a multifaceted agency of the Prince George’s County Government providing government-wide, mission critical support services in the areas of facilities operations and management, building design & construction, real estate services, fleet management, and general services. Position Duties
Consult with the Fleet Manager, developing goals, objectives, and performance measures for the Fleet Management Division.
Coordinates the day-to-day operational activities of the Fleet Management Division, including key support staff utilizing operational resources to the maximum extent to fulfill divisional responsibilities.
Assist with overseeing and managing the garage operations of the Fleet Management Division, including Motor pool operations. In the absence of the Fleet Manager, manages the entire Division.
Assists in the preparation and development of fiscal year budgets and new programs.
Maintains liaison with organizations, both public and private, with which the Division conducts business, to include vendors, using agencies, other County agencies and professional organizations established to serve the needs of professional Fleet Managers.
Assists the Fleet Manager in ensuring personnel actions are in compliance with Union Contract and County Personnel Law.
Issues guidance, direction, and motivation; establishes standards of work performance and evaluates performance based on position descriptions to meet acceptable industry standards of service.
Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s class for work.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in public or business administration
- Two (2) years of responsible experience in governmental activities to be specified based upon position assignment
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM)
Certified Automotive Fleet Specialist (CAFS) through the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA)
Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP) through the American Public Works Association (APAW)'

Conditions of Employment: Upon selection, the candidate must:
- Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
Maintain a valid driver's license with six (6) points or less.
- Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties, if applicable.
- Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings, where applicable.
- Be willing to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
- Working Environment: The incumbent typically works in offices but may travel to different garage locations within Prince George’s County. Working outise and inside; excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness or chilling; dry atmospheric conditions; excessive notes; intermittent dust, silica, asbestos, etc. fumes, smoke or gases; solvents (degreasing agents); grease and oils; working around machinery with moving parts; working around moving objects or vehicles; working on adders or scaffolding, explosives; vibrations; working with others and/or protracted or irregular hours.
