SUMMARY:   The Operations Manager is responsible for driving safe and efficient operations to reliably support plant production goals. The Operations Manager will monitor process yield numbers and make corrections if needed in collaboration with Process Engineering. Other duties include monitoring and guidance of the plant operations staff work schedules, ensuring proper documentation and development of SOPs and operator check sheets. The Operations Manager demonstrates and drives a culture of excellence in operations through Conduct of Operations and Operational Discipline in close collaboration with other members of leadership within the organization. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Champion a culture of excellence in Process Safety and HSE; leading by example and regularly evaluating and auditing compliance to established policies and procedures, as well as implementing best practices.
  • Overseeing plant operations, identifying problems, and developing and implementing corrective and preventative measures. Driving action and results through Shift Supervisors and providing regular reports to plant leadership.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop Shift Supervisors.
  • Coordinate new employee selection, onboarding, and training.
  • Ensure Operations Shift Schedules are optimized, track and report overtime for the group, manage fatigue risk, and establish and maintain appropriate staffing levels and competencies to ensure continuity of operation.
  • Participate in critical reviews of and changes to established processes and procedures, as well as development of new. Drive compliance and alignment to the Management of Change process throughout the Operations organization.
  • Maintain proper records and logs of activities and operating conditions.
  • Review and approve invoices related to Operations.
  • Provide leadership in professionalism and ethics.
  • Understand, support, and help implement plant goals and objectives, and on-going improvement plans and activities.
  • Assist Departmental Managers with the following, but not limited to: ensure compliance with all governing agency regulations and requirements, assist and ensure payroll is completed, schedule the activities of the maintenance personnel, and coordinate contractor activities
  • Oversight and ordering of consumable inventory used by Operations. Closely supervise chemical usage to meet Goal vs Actual monthly targets.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

  • Bachelor of Science degree preferred; or 5+ years related experience and/or training in leadership roles; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret in the English language: correspondence, policies, general business reports, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations, etc.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Supervisors, regulators, consultants, and the general public.
  • Ability to interpret and effectively communicate a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to make decisions on routine matters of policies.
  • Ability to define and solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables in handling situations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical formulas to practical situations.
  • Good organizational skills necessary to ensure efficient execution, tracking and reporting (e.g., HSE, Process Safety, QMS, Training and Development, Operating Policies).

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment consists of office, plant production, and outside climate conditions.  Noise level varies within the production area.

 

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day. Occasionally extended hours or changes in schedule will be required as special circumstances arise.
