Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM


Job Summary

The Instructor delivers high-quality, instruction that supports participants in building skills for greater independence.  This role designs and facilitates engaging learning experiences across multiple areas, adapting content to meet diverse needs and abilities.  Instructors collaborate with colleagues to ensure the curriculum aligns with Minnesota Independence College and Community (MICC) standards, fosters participant growth, and reflects best practices in experiential and adult learning.

Instruction and Curriculum Delivery

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons, group activities, and instruction
  • Adapt instructional methods and materials to meet a variety of learning styles and ability levels
  • Apply experiential learning models and competency-based progression to foster skill mastery
  • Integrate real-world applications and community experiences into instruction
  • Build supportive, professional relationships with participants, encouraging self-advocacy and personal accountability
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to guide participant growth
  • Support equitable access to opportunities, ensuring an inclusive learning environment
  • Partner with other instructors to share best practices and create integrated learning experiences
  • Monitor and document participant attendance, progress, and skill acquisition in MICC’s data systems

Community and Family Engagement

  • Participate in community-based instruction, partnerships, and events that enhance learning outcomes
  • Represent MICC at events such as Family Weekends, graduations, and community activities
  • Foster relationships with community partners to expand program opportunities

Collaboration and Professional Growth

  • Collaborate with advisors to set and monitor individualized goals and accommodations
  • Engage in regular department meetings, trainings, and professional development activities
  • Maintain open, effective communication with participants, colleagues, and families
  • Uphold MICC’s values of respect, inclusion, and person-centered service
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Career Development, or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with individuals with autism or learning differences preferred
  • Background in curriculum design, adult learning, or specialized instruction highly desirable

  • Ability to adapt instruction to diverse learning needs
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics

Paid Time Off (PTO)

MICC offers a generous amount of Paid Time Off (PTO):

  • 176 hours / 22 days (prorated upon start date) of paid vacation time
  • 80 hours / 10 days (accrued at 3.33 hours per pay period) of paid sick time
  • 80 hours / 10 days (holiday schedule available upon request) of paid holidays
  • 8 hours / 1 day for floating holiday

Sign-On Bonus Terms

  • Gross pay of $250 upon hire date (paid on the first paycheck following MICC's payroll schedule)
  • Gross pay of $250 at 90 days of employment (must be in good standing in order to receive the bonus)
