GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
· High School Diploma or GED – Minimum baseline for entry into the field.
The Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across campus facilities. This position supports the overall mission of the institution by ensuring that all spaces reflect the standards of care, professionalism, and pride upheld by the Physical Plant Operations team.
Key Responsibilities
· Supervise and coordinate custodial staff across shifts and locations
· Train new custodians in cleaning techniques, equipment use, and safety protocols
· Inspect facilities to ensure cleanliness standards are met
· Assign tasks and monitor completion and quality of work
· Respond to custodial-related service requests and resolve complaints
· Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment
· Perform advanced custodial tasks (e.g., floor stripping/waxing, carpet cleaning, window washing)
· Support setup and breakdown for special events and facility use
· Ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations
· Document inspections, incidents, and maintenance needs
Qualifications
- Proven experience in custodial or janitorial work preferred
- Familiarity with industrial cleaning equipment and safe chemical handling
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physical stamina to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
