Summary:
Applicant must possess a High School diploma or equivalent. A minimum 1 year experience in a medical front office or healthcare administrative roll preferred. Experience with NextGen system and Insurance knowledge and verification preferred. Applicant must possess basic computer skills, filing, strong customer service skills, and a clear understanding of HIPPA compliance and patient confidentiality. Applicant must have the ability to work in a very fast-paced environment and be able to multi-task with the ability to travel within the RSBCIHI organization when needed. Current CPR Certification which meets the guidelines of the American Heart Association or Red Cross (Can be obtained prior to orientation). The Patient Registration clerk is responsible for processing Patient Registration applications received from all RSBCIHI facilities. Registers all new patients, verifies and collects information in regards to eligibility, checks in patients for all departments, collects demographic information, updates files, collects and verifies insurance information, refers uninsured patient to Patient Services for screenings, and various other duties. Must be able to work with the Indian Community, and be sensitive to the Indian Culture and its needs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties of this position shall include, but are not limited to the following:
1. PROCESSING REGISTRATION: Process all new patients, modifications, deletes/merges on all updates, edits and alerts received. When processing these registrations and sending them to Indian Health Service.
2. MAINTAINS PATIENT RECORDS: Works independently and keeps files and statistical data up to date regarding patient registration. Types letters required for eligibility; follow-up system for all documents requested. Assemble completed patient registration documentation
for managers’ authorization only in difficult cases.
3. COMPUTERS: Operation of NextGen system and insurance verification. Modifies entries, missing/bad data, SSN project, name position edits, mismatch edits, daily edits, inactive patients, possible duplicates, APC match/edits.
4. JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must be familiar with our current program, department policies and manual, Indian Health Service guidelines, requirements, changes for patient registration eligibility. Insurance knowledge and verification.
5. CONFIDENTIALITY: Maintains confidentiality, security and safety of the patient records at all times. Must possess the ability to be tactful and discreet in the office and community setting as incumbent will be involved in highly confidential matters.
6. PERSONAL CONTACTS: Must be able to meet and deal effectively with people. Make clear oral and written request to patients for documentation. Work directly with many tribal offices, Bureau of Indian Affairs, medical facilities. Must be able to work with the Indian community and be sensitive to the Indian culture. Have the ability to effectively interrelate with all staff members and patients.
Qualifications
Education:
High School graduate or equivalent.
Experience:
Have one year verifiable experience that could have been gained in a position where a combination of clerical duties, i.e., typing, filing, meeting and dealing with people, were accomplished and computer experience preferred.
Knowledge of:
Basic computer skills
License:
Must possess a valid California driver’s license and a safe driving record. A current DMV printout is required.
Ability to:
Perform routine duties independently, following prescribed regulations, guidelines, and well-established procedures. Nonroutine assignments are closely supervised by the supervisor. Work is subject to periodic reviews and incumbent is to keep supervisor informed of major problems encountered in work assignments. Communicate with a wide variety of Indian patients plus a wide variety of health providers.
Must be able to work with the Indian Community, and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.
