Are you excited about this Child Advocate Prevention Specialist job?

As a Child Advocate Prevention Specialist at the Korean Women's Association, you will play a pivotal role in supporting children and youth who have witnessed or survived domestic violence. You will provide advocacy within educational settings, facilitate youth support groups, and organize community outreach activities aimed at raising awareness of domestic violence issues. Your position will involve arranging preventive support groups and workshops throughout the year, serving as a vital liaison among schools, shelters, and the community. You’ll assess the strengths and needs of students and families, providing appropriate referrals to resources such as childcare, mental health support, and recreational activities. Additionally, you will help develop and lead age-specific support groups, maintain service records, and deliver advocacy-based counseling where needed. Your commitment to providing trauma-informed care will ensure that all services align with the principles of Advocacy Based Counseling (ABC) and adhere to relevant regulations.

What we're looking for in a Child Advocate Prevention Specialist

To succeed as a Child Advocate Prevention Specialist at the Korean Women's Association, a candidate should bring a minimum of one year of experience in social or human services, with a strong preference for those who have worked in victim/survivor advocacy and crisis intervention or counseling. Familiarity with a domestic violence (DV) shelter or transitional housing environment is highly desirable, as it provides key insights into the unique challenges faced by survivors. Excellent communication skills are vital for building relationships with children, families, and community partners, while strong collaboration abilities will aid in effective case management and resource coordination. Bilingual candidates are particularly valued, as language proficiency can enhance outreach and advocacy efforts. The ability to maintain accurate service records and utilize relevant software tools will also be essential for ensuring compliance with regulations and facilitating effective service delivery.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • • Minimum of one (1) year experience in social or human services preferred;
  • • Experience in victim/survivor advocacy and crisis intervention/counseling preferred; and
  • • Experience working in a DV shelter or transitional housing environment preferred.
  • • Bilingual (any language) preferred
