The TxDOT Support Services Division is seeking a highly motivated individual for a Security Project Management position. The Security team at TxDOT focuses on working independently and as a team to lead and coordinate critical security initiatives across the organization.  The ideal candidate will possess exceptional project management skills, a deep understanding of security protocols and risk mitigation strategies, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Performs skilled project management for a Statewide access security system projects. Provide continued support for the security systems on district offices throughout the state of Texas. This work will be technical support, evaluation and coordination for the installation, project management, maintenance and/or repair of a wide variety of electronic security systems including video surveillance cameras. Electronic security systems include burglar alarms, fire alarms, access control, evacuation and video surveillance. Assists with contract management and oversight for installation of new security systems. Reports to the Security Program Supervisor. Work requires contact with departmental personnel, District Engineers, and private entities. Work requires extensive statewide travel. Employees at this level perform detailed work independently on assignments.

Essential Duties:

  • Coordinates and works with personnel from other trades to complete assignments.
  • Designs, implements and oversees administration of personnel entry card and ID badge systems.
  • May assist in job layout and bid proposals of security systems.
  • Performs security system testing, inspection and troubleshooting of fire, burglar, card access and other related systems.
  • Trains DD staff in system operations.
  • Trains employees on the use of equipment and procedures.
  • Provides system design and integration recommendations and recommends improvements in security systems or procedures.
  • Conducts security audits to identify potential vulnerabilities related to physical security, staff safety, or asset protection.
  • Designs security policies, programs, or practices to ensure adequate security relating to issues such as protection of assets, alarm response, and access card use.
  • Prepares, maintains, or updates security procedures, security system drawings, or related documentation
  • Develops or review specifications for design or construction of security systems.
  • Develops conceptual designs of security systems.
  • Monitors the work of contractors in the design, construction, and startup phases of security systems.
  • Reviews design drawings or technical documents for completeness, correctness, or appropriateness.
  • Inspects security design features, installations, or programs to ensure compliance with applicable standards or regulations.
  • Assists with contract management and oversight for installation of new security systems.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience: 4 years of experience in the installation of electronic security systems. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications: 

  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of CCURE Software House
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of American Dynamics surveillance systems
  • Knowledge of fencing, gates, and gate operators

Competencies:

  • Fundamentals of electrical/electronics and design procedures
  • Electronic security systems
  • Emergency response procedures
  • Building security policies and procedures
  • Building and fire codes for inspection purposes

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
  • Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
  • Subject to noise
  • Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
  • Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Light work: Lift up to 20lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10lbs
  •  Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another
  • Walking - expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
  • Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes visual inspection of small defects/parts
  • Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
  • Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures
