We are seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of experienced Dredge Deckhand who can meet the requirements. Please review the following requirements carefully before applying. Only applicants with verifiable dredge experience and qualifications should apply. This position will require frequent travel and reliable transportation, this position is not for a live on dredge. Employees are provided with per diem to cover their own lodging expense.

Applicants must meet all of the listed qualifications to be considered for the position. Those who cannot meet these requirements will not be considered.  Candidates will be required to demonstrate their ability to meet and perform these requirements upon hire. 

Deckhand is responsible for the care and custody of their boat, tool, winches, jigger pumps, anchor barge, and skidder barge. They are also responsible for the care of any other equipment on the job and performing the duties prescribed by supervisory personnel. This can include helping in the engine room or on the disposal area D.A. and the operation of the anchor barge and skidder barge. Prior knowledge of the roles and duties as required.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS BEFORE YOU PROCEED 

  • Applications that do not provide sufficient dredge experience, detailed work history, job responsibilities, and accurate employment dates will be disqualified.
  • We do not provide transportation; this is the employee's responsibility.  
  • You will be assigned to dredges based on the company's operational needs. We are unable to make accommodations based on an employee's home location. While we strive to accommodate requests when possible, we cannot guarantee such accommodations will be made.
  • This is not for a live-on dredge. We provide per diem, and employees are responsible for their lodging and meals.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (THIS IS NOT ALL-INCLUSIVE) 

• Upholds the Company’s commitment to an injury-free workplace; leads and models safe work practices 

• Follows all safety rules and regulations as well as all company policies and procedures

• Works safely around machinery; observes and instructs others in proper equipment use; uses/wears all required PPE

• Inspects vessel daily and reports the results of the inspection to the operator

• Performs inspection of the anchor barge and skidder barge. Notates results of the inspection on the daily checklist for each shift. Inspections should not be limited to the checklist on the logs. Documents and corrects anything that could affect the crew's safety, the vessel's seaworthiness, or the vessel's mechanical integrity

• Inspects tools and supplies daily on board the vessel as per the tool and supply checklist

• Performs inspection of barges and the floating pipe. The night deckhand is responsible for inspecting lights on the pontoon lines

• Maintains excellent housekeeping of the vessel. Coils ropes and stores them as soon as they are untied, picks up tools, and stores them when not used. Keeps the decks of all barges, boats, the dredge, and the landing area clean and free of debris

• Keeps decks clean and free of trip hazards as well as clean and free of oil spills on the deck, in the bilge, and the water

• Handles ropes and pontoon lines

• Assists with repairs on the boats, dredge, or DA as directed

• Maintains vessel in a good safe condition. Greases all grease fittings, changes fuel filters, light bulbs, spotlights, work lights, engine room, and wheelhouse lights

• Assists crew as directed with repairs and maintenance

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

• High School degree or equivalent

• Two or more years of experience as Deckhand

• Excellent safety and mechanical skills

• Ability to meet physical requirements of the position as outlined in the Functional Job Description

• Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment testing (drug test, fit test) in addition to random drug and alcohol testing

• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

 

SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION 

• Weekly pay, one week in arrears

• 28/14- Four weeks on, two weeks off

• Standard work hours are typically 12 hours daily; however, adjustments may be made depending on the operational requirements.

• This is an FLSA, Non-Exempt position, meaning any hours worked over 40 in the same work week will be compensated as overtime.

 

Candidates who do not meet the minimum requirements will not be considered.
