Job Description

 

Rochambeau, The French International School of Washington, DC (Rochambeau), has an opening for Certified Aftercare Staff, Part-Time, for the 2025-2026 school year. 

Location: Bethesda, MD  
Reports to: Auxiliary Programs Director

Job Type: Part-time, 10-15 hours/week, non-exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

Aftercare staff provide safe and engaging care in French to pre-school children during after school hours.  Following early childhood care practices, staff will engage young children through art, play, games, movement, and quiet activities. 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

These duties and responsibilities are intended only as examples of the various types of job duties to be performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is a similar, related, or logical assignment to the position. 

  • Supervise and engage preschool children during after-school care and extended aftercare, including indoor and outdoor play, painting, drawing, reading, and games.
  • Ensure a high standard of safety, hygiene, and organization throughout the session.
  • Maintain a nurturing environment in line with early childhood practices.
  • Communicate clearly and kindly with children and staff in French.
  • Collaborate with lead instructors and aftercare team members, and contribute to a positive workplace culture aligned with Rochambeau’s values.
  • Participate in staff training and appropriately implement safety protocols, including pediatric first aid/CPR compliance.

Requirements:

  • Certification in Early Childhood Education, Child Care Aide credential, or equivalent. Willingness to complete certification within 3 months if not already certified.
  • Proven experience working with young children aged 2–5, ideally within TPS–GS settings. Minimum one to two years preferred.
  • Fluency in French (spoken and written) is required; bilingual French–English skills preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, initiative, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for early childhood development.
  • Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to become certified promptly).
  • Compliance with Maryland Office of Child Care licensing and training standards.
