The City of Steamboat Springs ice Arena in the Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to announce we are hiring two Maintenance Technician-Ice Arena.  Put your talents and skills to work to contribute to our vibrant community!

Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the operation, repair, and maintenance at the Howelsen Ice Arena facility.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of the Ice Arena Facilities Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Occasionally supervises seasonal Recreation Workers, contractors, volunteers and community service workers.

Position Duties

Serves as an ambassador of the City of Steamboat Springs and upholds City values of Service, Teamwork, Integrity, Well-being, Respect and Compassion, while espousing safety at all times. 

Maintains ice sheet, locker rooms, restrooms, hockey boxes, lobby, offices, arena hardware, and other general facility operations; plows and clears snow from roof, sidewalks and doorways; collects and disposes of trash; performs related duties.

Utilizes light to heavy equipment in the maintenance, repair, and installation of items in facility.

Maintains general knowledge base of and performs general spot checks on HVAC and refrigeration systems.  Works with ammonia and other hazardous materials on a bi-weekly basis while maintaining refrigeration system.

Insures the proper maintenance of equipment (including but not limited to Zamboni, skate sharpener, floor scrubber, snowblower, ice edger) and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.

Coordinates and monitors the work of outside contractors as needed.
Assist in maintaining inventory of parts, tools, and equipment.

Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor or crew leader.

Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.

Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of facility crew.

Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment. 

Operates various aspects of Howelsen Ice Arena front desk, including customer service, point of sale, skate sharpening, skate guarding etc.

Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; performs cost control activities; monitors revenues and expenditures in assigned area to assure sound fiscal control; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, equipment, and time.

Determines work procedures and expedites workflow; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.

Issues written and oral instructions; is computer literate; assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Serves on various employee or other committees and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

(A)       Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent, and
(B)       Two (2) years of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair, or
(C)       Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
(A)       Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities;
(B)       Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment.
(C)       Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; Ability to work safely; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public;
(D)       Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid State of Colorado Driver's license and ability to maintain one.

Other Qualifications

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Motorized vehicles and equipment, including Zamboni, ice edger, floor scrubber, snow blower, skate sharpener, computer, pickup truck, saws, pumps, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, phone system.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

May be required to work weekends and holidays.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
