Description of the Position:
The Physics department is hiring for the role of TEAM-UP Student Associate. These students will join the Faculty Lead (Brian Borovsky) to form the TEAM-UP executive committee at St. Olaf College. TEAM-UP stands for National Task Force to Elevate African American Representation in Undergraduate Physics and Astronomy, which is a nationwide project founded by the American Institute of Physics (AIP).
The purpose of TEAM-UP is to create initiatives that promote a sense of belonging for all students in the department, regardless of background or identity. For example, the fall TEAM-UP Workshop that combines informal socializing with small group discussions of example scenarios involving challenging peer interactions, based on real student experiences.
This executive committee is guided by the recommendations for undergraduate physics departments contained in the TEAM-UP Report by the American Institute of Physics (AIP). The Report contains recommendations in five different areas, including Sense of Belonging. The executive committee will build on what has been done in these areas by students, faculty, and staff in the Physics department since the project’s beginning in the fall of 2020.
