About the Department
The Baker is part-time, non-benefited position responsible for preparing, baking and decorating a variety of baked goods. This position will involve following recipes, ensuring consistency in product quality, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The Baker will collaborate with other kitchen staff to meet customer demands, contribute to menu development, and ensure all products adhere to health and safety standards.
Compensation: $13.33 - $17.35/hr. depending upon directly related experience.
Priority Screening Date: Position is open until filled.
Starting Date: As soon as practical after the hiring process.
Position Duties
Baking and Pastry Production– Ensure high-quality baking and pastry production by preparing, baking and presenting a variety of baked goods and pastries that enhance the college cafeteria’s menu offerings.
- Prepare a variety of baked goods, including bread, pastries, cakes, and desserts, following standardized recipes.
- Experiment with new recipes and techniques to enhance the menu.
Cleaning – Maintain a clean bakery area by implementing and following hygiene and sanitation protocols, ensuring all work surfaces, equipment, and utensils are regularly cleaned and organized to promote a safe and efficient baking environment.
Prep– Prepare for the next day by organizing ingredients, baking supplies, and equipment, ensuring all necessary items are ready for efficient and timely production to meet the dining hall’s baking schedule.
Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required
- While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
- There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
- An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
- The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be instances of somewhat loud environments

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Highschool diploma or GED
- One year of experience baking in the food service industry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Food Service Management, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Hotel/Restaurant Management or related field from an accredited college or university, culinary certifications, or a combination of four years of training and years of experience directly related to managing a food service operation.
