The Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry Airport is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Business Specialist (Assistant Airport Property Manager) - Concessions to work in Aviation's Business and Property Management Division. This is administrative work assisting in the coordination and administration of concession activities related to the airport's multi-million dollar concession program at the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and North Perry Airport.  The position is responsible for concession contract management and monitoring, concession tenants relations, concession operations and concession procurement.  The Business Specialist (Assistant Airport Property Manager) - Concessions will report to the Airport Manager of Business - Concessions.

Work involves responsibility for assisting and coordinating various activities relating to the management functions in the negotiation of agreements, leasing and inspection of airport concessions.  Emphasis of the work is on oversight of operations of the concession program, including but not limited to assisting in negotiating and preparing a variety of concession agreements and related leases, concession procurement, maintaining favorable tenant relations, inspecting leased airport properties for compliance with the terms and conditions of the agreements and leases, and assisting with research pertaining to the retail, food & beverage and concession industries. The Business Specialist (Assistant Airport Property Manager) - Concessions will assist the Airport Manager of Business - Concessions with periodic inspections, evaluations and monitoring of airport leaseholds and facilities for compliance with terms and conditions contained in leases and concession agreements and with established departmental practices.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business, public administration or closely related field.

Requires two (2) years' experience in business or public administration including high level administrative positions involving compliance, public contact, coordination of office business functions in an aviation/airport concession or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license during employment and maintain authority to drive on County business.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge and Customs Seal.

Preferences
  • Experience in Food & Beverage Industry or Retail Industry
  • Experience in operating a concession at an airport
  • Master's Degree in Marketing, Management, Finance, Economics, Aviation, Food Service Management, Hospitality Management or related field
  • Doctorate in Marketing, Management, Finance, Economics, Aviation or related field
  • Juris Doctorate
  • Certificate in Retail or Food Service Management
  • Certified Professional Food Manager Certification or another related certification
  • ServSafe Food Manager Professional Certification

Per the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Part 1542, all airport employees must undergo a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and a Security Threat Assessment (STA) to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge, as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)

Position Duties

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

  • Initiates and cultivates communication with airport tenants to ensure favorable working relationships among departmental administration, tenants, airport clients and the community.
  • Assist with negotiations, development and preparation of concession leases for leasing space within the Airport.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate records of all lease and concession agreements; identifies effective dates and termination dates, description of type of concession operations, annual rental obligations, company name and any special agreements.
  • Monitors and follows-up for compliance to all agreement/lease/permit terms and conditions, e.g. security deposits, bonds, insurance and construction deadlines.
  • Attends conferences and public and professional meetings.
  • Assists with the reviews and evaluation of proposals for new concession opportunities and business ventures. 
  • Assists with the coordination of various activities relating to lease management system and processes for concession, including report preparation. 
  • Assists in concession tenant leasehold inspections.
  • Work is performed independently with general supervision through conferences with administrative supervisor and by adherence to established policies and procedures. Supervision is received through conferences with an administrative superior and by adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Performs related work as required.
