Job location: The Central Executive Management Office of BBMRI-ERIC in Graz, Austria or remote work
Job purpose: As member of the IT Services and Research Department, you will play a key role in facilitating the development and operation of the BBMRI-ERIC access management services, which are used by countries across Europe and beyond.
Contract: As work-life balance is a high priority at BBMRI-ERIC less than a full-time contract (40 hours/week) can be agreed.

BBMRI-ERIC is the European Research Infrastructure for biobanking and biomolecular resources established in 2013 under EU legislation. BBMRI-ERIC enables the development of innovative technology and processes as a cross-domain network that facilitates responsible access to high quality samples, data and biomolecular resources. We achieve this through multidisciplinary expertise and service provision, scientific excellence, knowledge exchange and partnerships in health and life sciences. Key Responsibilities:
- Your DevOps vision drives the design and the development of BBMRI-ERIC’s discovery and access management services – a toolset designed to facilitate the discovery of data, biological materials, and services within the BBMRI-ERIC network, and to negotiate access to medical data and biobanking resources. As a core component of the IT ecosystem, these services reinforce BBMRI-ERIC’s position as one of the largest European Research Infrastructures in Health and Life Science
- Ability to integrate the BBMRI-ERIC tools with other services and platforms ensuring seamless interoperability across diverse systems
- Take ownership / become master & key contributor of open-source applications for international cooperation, with the results being openly available at GitHub[1] to the whole community
- Strong interest in developing intuitive, user-friendly applications by applying modern approaches/techniques in responsive, web-based user interfaces
- Hands on mentality in the daily operations and technical support of the BBMRI-ERIC services
In this role your required qualifications and skills are:
- Ability to design and to develop large-scale technological components
- Experience working in an international and geographically distributed development team
- Proficiency in development of large database applications with web interfaces in Java (Spring)
- Proven experience in developing web applications using modern UI frameworks (Vue.js, Svelte or React)
- Experience with CI/CD, containerization and service orchestration
- Excellent working knowledge of GitHub action, its workflow & APIs
- Experience in designing APIs (REST/GraphQL) for integration with 3rd party services
- Experience with operating services in virtualized Linux environments
- Professional fluency in English, as English is the official working language of BBMRI-ERIC
- Team-oriented mindset with the capability to work independently and collaboratively under pressure
- Readiness for moderate travel
Bonus qualifications and skills:
- BSc/MSc/PhD in computer science, medical informatics or bioinformatics
- Professional certifications related to development and service operations
- Integration of web-based applications with OpenID Connect authentication
- Development of applications for the medical research environments
- Experience with medical data management
Employment terms and conditions
As we aim to provide a diverse work environment, the work can be performed at the headquarters in Graz with occasional home office options or remotely.
The employment follows the Austrian employment law.
What we offer
€ 75,000.00 as minimum annual gross salary, based on 40 hours/week, (European/international standards for similar roles and responsibilities and requirements considered); final salary dependent on terms of qualifications and experience.
