About the Department
The Instructor, Nurse Aide reports to the Coordinator of Nurse Aide Programs and works in collaboration with the Dean of Health Sciences. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and supporting the day-to-day operations of the Nurse Aide program to ensure compliance with North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry requirements. The Nurse Aide instructor facilitates engaging learning experiences across classroom, lab, and clinical settings; advises students; supports program development; and contributes to the success of the program through coordination with community partners and other departments. The role also plays a vital part in promoting workforce readiness and excellence in healthcare education while advancing the College’s strategic goals related to access and student success.
Position Duties
Instruction and Student Engagement:
- Teach assigned Nurse Aide courses as scheduled, including classroom, lab, and clinical instruction, during mornings, afternoons, evenings, or weekends as needed.
- Prepare and maintain course syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials that meet curriculum and regulatory requirements.
- Facilitate student learning through active engagement, real-world applications, and hands-on clinical training.
- Monitor student performance, provide timely and constructive feedback, and support student retention and success.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and evaluations.
- Participate in student orientation and advisement related to the Nurse Aide program.
- Collaborate with program coordinator and Dean to support curriculum implementation and program alignment with state and federal guidelines.
- Maintain program compliance with NC DHSR and Nurse Aide I Registry standards, including clinical site coordination and evaluation documentation.
- Ensure instructional areas and labs meet safety, sanitation, and equipment standards.
- Assist in developing new continuing education opportunities related to nurse aide training and healthcare pathways.
- Maintain open lines of communication with community partners, including clinical affiliates and workforce development stakeholders.
- Maintain accessibility to students, including regular office hours for academic advising and support.
- Participate in department, division, and college-wide meetings and initiatives.
- Serve on committees and contribute to planning and institutional effectiveness processes as assigned.
- Participate in professional development activities to remain current in nursing education, teaching strategies, and regulatory changes.
- Support college recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Associate degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution
- Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of North Carolina
- Minimum of two years (4,000 hours) of verifiable work experience as a registered nurse in the United States
- At least one of the following:
- Completion of a course in teaching adults
- Experience teaching adult learners
- Experience supervising nurse aides
- Current CPR certification (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers)
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from a regionally accredited institution
- Two years of community college teaching experience
- One year of supervisory experience in a clinical or academic setting
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency
