About the Department
Performs professional accounting work covering all phases of account maintenance, classification, analysis, and expenditure control of all phases of fiscal transactions; does related work as required.

Certain essential city services are required to be maintained in any civil emergency. Depending upon the type of emergency, any and all employees may be activated as essential employees in the event of an emergency.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
An employee in this class exercises considerable judgment in planning, implementing, revising and maintaining accounting procedures and in the preparation of statements and reports.
Position Duties
- Significant responsibility in the coordination of the annual financial audit with external auditors.
- Reviews and maintains financial information to ensure proper reporting and analysis on a regular basis.
- Reviews and makes recommendations for development and modification for improvement of specific areas of accounting procedures to assure conformity to policy and increase effectiveness.
- Prepares detailed and complex schedules, charts and supporting data for the City’s annual comprehensive audit, as we as the State annual financial reports, and year-end closing.
- Reviews various General Leger entries prepared by accounting staff.
- Prepares special reports and provides necessary documents for grant applications and reporting;
- Assists with analyzes of bank reconciliations, trial balances and other financial reports in preparing the monthly financial reports;
- Assists
- Analyzes financial data including revenue trends and expenditures
. - Reviews analysis and reconciliation of posted ad valorem tax revenue compared to the County records.
- May assist with the department’s annual budget preparation.
- Works directly with assigned departments and supervisors to calculate, revise, and analyze annual budget for City and/or department;
- Responsible for management of accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash receipts, cash basis disbursements; and unclaimed property to the State.
- Prepares the quarterly 491 IRS report.
- Reviews and approves vendor invoices;
- Prepares reports for other governmental agencies;
- Prepares special project analysis as directed;
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a closely related field with significant work experience in accounting.
Possession of a valid Florida Driver License.
Other Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures and their application in a work situation (may include non-profit accounting as assigned);
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures as applied to a complex municipal accounting system involving a large number of transactions;
- Strong knowledge of computer spreadsheet programs;
- Ability to work effectively with others and to plan and supervise the work of the clerical accounting staff;
- Ability to prepare meaningful special and regular financial reports in a timely manner;
- Ability to prepare accounting, financial and statistical statements and compiling basic and supporting data through use of computerized accounting software;
- Ability to handle normal levels of stress;
- Physical ability to perform duties.
