Salary: $2,279 - $5,013 per season, based upon relevant prior experience

POSITION SUMMARY: The JV Baseball Coach is responsible for teaching fundamental skills, fostering sportsmanship, and preparing student athletes for advancement to the varsity level while promoting academic achievement and personal growth.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assigned

• Plan, organize, and conduct regular practices that develop player skills, knowledge of the game, and teamwork

• Teach and reinforce fundamental techniques such as hitting, pitching, fielding, base running, and game strategies

• Promote a positive, respectful, and safe environment for all athletes

• Collaborate with the varsity baseball coach to ensure consistency in coaching philosophy, training methods, and program goals

• Evaluate player skills and provide constructive feedback to promote improvement

• Supervise athletes before, during, and after practices, games, and team events

• Manage game-day responsibilities, including lineup preparation, in-game adjustments, and sportsmanship

• Maintain communication with players, parents, athletic trainer, and athletic director

• Enforce all school, league, and state athletic rules and policies

• Support the academic success of all student athletes

• Oversee care and accountability of uniforms, equipment, and facilities

• Commitment to regular and predictable attendance

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Prior baseball coaching or playing experience preferred

• Knowledge of baseball rules, communication, and safety protocols

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

• Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, staff, parents, and the community

• Knowledge of MHSAA policies preferred

• Satisfactory background check

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

The employee must be able to:

• Stand for extended periods during practices and games

• Sit for extended periods on buses for away games and tournaments

• Perform and demonstrate baseball skills and movements such as batting, catching, and pitching

• Move up and down the field, observe players, and actively engage with them

• React quickly in fast-paced game play to ensure player safety

• Lift and move bats, balls, bases, and other equipment (typically up to 25-50 lbs)

• Project voice loudly and clearly in noisy environments

• Maintain composure under stress
