Role: Advocacy Practitioner 

Salary: £27,000 per annum, (pro-rata) plus £3333.00 London Allowance

Location: Hybrid/Central London - Travel inside and outside London is required.

Contract/Hours: Permanent, Part- Time - 22.2 hours a week, some flexibility is required for meetings after 5pm.

A bit about the role

Action for Childrens Advocacy Service promotes and facilitates the participation of children and young people in decisions made about them.

You will be joining a passionate and dedicated team as an Advocacy Practitioner you will have a positive impact on the lives of children, and young people across London.

What does the role entail?

By delivering advocacy services to children and young people looked after and leaving care that promotes and facilitates their participation in decisions made about them in accordance with organisational policy, procedure and National Standards for the provision of children's advocacy services in partnership with social care professionals.

How will you make a difference?

  • By providing a statutory service and voices are heard for children and young adults aged 0-25+ years of age.
  • By ensuring a high-quality outreach children's rights service to children and young people through direct advocacy and other appropriate forms of intervention.
  • By delivering and promoting a Children's Rights service based on principles which include independence, respect, empowerment, choice, equal access, anti-discriminatory practice, and confidentiality within any limits appropriately imposed by other considerations such as child protection.
  • By keeping abreast of new policy or legislative changes, through research and training, that impact on children in care actively contributing to policy and service developments. Taking on an ‘expert' role in promoting the rights of children and young people with other professionals within Social Care divisions.
  • By providing children and young people with relevant information about their rights and entitlements including, developing and disseminate child friendly information, supporting them in interpreting and understanding information so that they can make well-informed decisions.
  • By retaining accurate and contemporaneous records, using various IT systems to capture information and produce written reports and provide quarterly reports to senior management so that lessons can be learnt and quality of practice challenged constructively.

What will you need?

  • Level 3 in health and social care or equivalent
  • Experience working with children and young people. In particular children who have been in contact with social services, care leavers, complex needs, disability and mental health.
  • Giving advice (desirable)
