About the Department

The General Foreperson will supervise and conduct all Structures and Facilities repair, maintenance and construction projects, including the supervision of all forepersons and crews within their assigned area. The General Foreperson will supervise a composite gang of various trades working together to respond to immediate jobs as well as planned and scheduled activities.

Position Duties

•Assign, oversee and direct the activities of work crews under his/her jurisdiction.
•Inspect work crew maintenance/repair activities to ensure that assignments are completed safely and according to established schedules and operating standards.
•Ensure the safety of workers and customers; and ensure that all inventory levels, equipment, and facilities under their control are protected in a safe operating condition.
•Assume the responsibilities of their supervisor as needed.
•Document, maintain, and prepare required maintenance and personnel records on manual and computerized tracking systems.
•Ensure budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
•Provide technical instruction when necessary.
•Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and assist at emergencies, events, and/or transport crews or equipment as needed.
•Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or coworker in a courteous and professional manner.
•Respond or report to work as directed by supervisory personnel for emergencies, extreme weather conditions, or any other abnormal conditions that impair service or the safety of service, twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
•Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.
•Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation Policies
•Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned

•Available to work all shifts and locations as assigned or directed.
•Available to work as per assignment by the MBTA twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as directed by supervisory staff for severe weather conditions, emergencies or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service.
•Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations assigned or directed. 

Supervision  
•Supervision of all crews within their assigned area. 


Minimum Qualifications

•Four (4) years of experience in the repair, maintenance and construction of Facilities, Structures, and Infrastructure. 
•Related experience in a supervisory capacity.
•Ability to plan, mobilize and execute work and redirect as needed to and from a job following through until completion.
•Ability to communicate to all stakeholders internal and external to the Authority on project scheduling, status and completion.  
•Effective organizational and analytical skills.
•The ability to use Word, Excel, or database applications.
•Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with general knowledge and air brake endorsements.
•Have excellent customer service skills.
•The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience.
•Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
•Respond or report to work as directed by supervisory personnel for emergencies, extreme weather conditions, or any other abnormal conditions that impair service or the safety of service, twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
•Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce

Minimum Educatio
n              
•A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution with the ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. in English.  
•A technical degree.
•Maintenance training from a technical institute or related technical certificates.
•Additional experience in a supervisory capacity. 
•Experience and familiarity with multiple relevant building trades and techniques. 
•A valid Massachusetts trades license. 
•Construction Supervisor License.
