The Assistant Professor & Choral Director is a dynamic, student-focused educator and conductor responsible for leading the university’s choral ensembles, developing and teaching undergraduate music courses. This role combines excellence in choral artistry with a commitment to teaching, scholarship, recruitment, and community engagement.


Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee all university choral ensembles, including the flagship choir, chamber choir, and other vocal groups as assigned.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct rehearsals, performances, and tours, both on campus and in the community.
  • Collaborate with university leadership, faculty, and external partners to promote choral programs and public performances.
  • Select diverse and engaging repertoire that reflects artistic excellence and cultural inclusivity.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in choral conducting, vocal pedagogy, music theory, ear training, or other areas aligned with expertise.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and program assessment to maintain accreditation standards.
  • Engage in active recruitment of talented student singers through auditions, workshops, and high school/community outreach.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the university’s music program at regional and national conferences, festivals, and events.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, faculty committees, and institutional initiatives.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of teaching, performance, and community engagement.


Education

  • Doctorate (DMA, PhD) or Master’s degree in Choral Conducting, Music Education, or a related field (ABD considered with completion by start date).
  • Demonstrated success in conducting and directing collegiate or professional choral ensembles.
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
