We support people in navigating local support options and connecting with specialist services that meet their needs. Our aims are to:
- Support people in making informed decisions
- Improve the wellbeing of everyone in Lewisham
- Help those with mental health needs manage their wellbeing
This key role within a mental wellbeing service in Lewisham involves autonomous, mobile working in the community and inside the hub, alongside engagement with a fast-paced team. The Wellbeing Worker BAME will specifically support people from the BAME community.
Workers are required to coordinate and maintain their own workload, reporting on their activity as needed. The majority of a Wellbeing Worker’s time will be spent delivering bespoke one-to-one and group support to people from the BAME community experiencing or recovering from mental health problems, both inside the hub and in the community. Support will be provided both face-to-face and online.
Key Responsibilities
- Support people from the BAME community on a one-to-one or group basis through various interventions related to self-directed support and goal achievement
- Contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse and self-harm
- Contribute to the ongoing development of individuals and the service

- Communicate effectively with individuals from the BAME community
- Maintain open, honest, and transparent professional relationships
- Forge and maintain relationships with other community agencies
- Share knowledge, skills, and experience within the team while maintaining confidentiality

- Promote community engagement as a key factor in recovery and self-management
4. Promoting Choice and Control
- Empower individuals to exercise choice and control through a person-centred service led by their wishes

- Maintain and build upon good IT knowledge
- Use IT to enhance Your Way’s working practices
6. Capturing and Sharing What We Do
- Record and report on activity and outcomes
- Share examples of good practice
- Maintain up-to-date records and share them with individuals as needed
7. Promoting User Leadership and Involvement
- Foster opportunities for individuals to lead in service development
- Support volunteers, including peer supporters
8. Service Outcomes
- Raise aspirations and support the growth of this new service
- Increase community engagement and awareness
- Enable individuals to lead fulfilling lives without relying on conventional mental health services
- Support individuals in completing meaningful self-assessments and maximizing their personal budgets
- Encourage individuals to lead their own journey and maintain control over their lives
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Experience working with BAME communities
- Knowledge of mental health and wellbeing support
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage own workload
- IT literacy for reporting and online support
- Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality
- Familiarity with community engagement and person-centred approaches

Information about individuals must be treated with the strictest confidence and discussed with colleagues only with prior consent, unless there is a risk involved.
Information about staff must also be treated confidentially and discussed only with senior staff or a line manager.
