TITLE: Youth Leader – Beattie Middle Schools

 

REPORTS TO: Site Lead, Site Rep, QAC & Director of Program Services

 

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday 

 

DEPARTMENT: Programs

 

POSITION STATUS: Full-time, non-exempt

 

 

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

After School Youth Leaders work with an assigned group of students at an elementary, middle, or high school within the San Bernardino Unified School District. Our staff-to-student ratios are contingent upon CDC, State, and Federal Guidelines and are currently 1 to 20.

Our Youth Leaders make a positive impact on a child’s life every single day. Youth Leaders are role models and mentors. 

 

With their team, they work to foster the 5 key elements of the Boys & Girls Clubs: A Safe, Positive Environment, A Sense of Belonging, Fun, Opportunities and Expectations, and Recognition.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Motivate and encourage program participation with students.
  • Provide homework/academic support.
  • Provide a safe environment for students through active supervision, setting clear expectations and maintaining clean program areas.
  • Create an engaging, positive, and fun environment for students.
  • Provide constant, active supervision; implement and follow School behavioral guidelines.
  • Provide guidance, affirm positive behavior and act as a role model and mentor to youth.
  • Support and be a backup to other programs.
  • Be a rider when needed by the transportation team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must have at least 48 semester/72 quarter college units, College Degree or pass the School District NCLB test.
  • Experience working with children (volunteer work counts).
  • Knowledge of youth development stages.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to plan and implement quality activities for youth.
  • Ability to organize and supervise youth in a safe environment.
  • Candidates must be 18 years or older.
  • Valid State Driver License or California ID card.
  • Must clear Background checks, Drug Screen, and Employment Physical.
  • CPR & First Aid Certifications - required within 2 months of hire date (we provide certification courses).

 

Note: This position will be in-person working at a school site. We are taking all necessary precautions to ensure our employees' safety.

  • Obtain and maintain Mandated Reporter training and complete annual Child Abuse Prevention training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, carts, sports equipment, etc. and reach overhead. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and multi task. The job requires about 85% walking and/or standing, and 15% sitting. This position will be in-person working at a school site. Exposure to noise. Will work inside and outside.
