 POSITION SUMMARY:

The Front-End Loader Driver is responsible for servicing Trash and/or Recycling BINS while safely operating a front end loader truck to service customer BINS in a safe and efficient manner. Bins may weigh in excess of 500 pounds and at times require drivers to maneuver wheeled containers into position for Truck to lift/service. Driver will transport material to a disposal, transfer or recycle facility. Driver navigates traffic and congested roadways, alleyways & shopping center parking lots. Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential to successfully perform this job.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following

  • Services containers from 1.5 yards to 4 yards. Daily route consists of 160-180 BINS.
  • Perform daily pre-and post-trip inspections. Complete and submit vehicle condition reports at the end of the shift. 
  • Maneuver truck into and out of minimum clearance spaces, using mirrors to back distances up to approximately 120 feet.
  • Safely Operate hydraulic arms/forks to lift Bins for dumping/service.
  • Manually push wheeled BIN into position; use control levers to lift Bin for dumping into truck & lowering empty Bin; Manually push wheeled BIN back into enclosure/customer location.
  • Transport load to specified disposal, transfer or recycling facility.
  • Courteously interact with customers and/or the general public along the route to answer questions or respond to requests and notify supervisor of any issues requiring management action.
  • Reports incidents immediately to Department Supervisor.
  • Scan customer site before and after dumping.
  • Must be flexible to work Saturdays on rotating schedule.
  • Attend weekly mandatory safety meetings.
  • Maintains a clean truck. Exterior & Interior.
  • Performs other duties may be assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

  •  Acceptable driving record.
  • Must have ability to understand and complete route sheets and dispatch tickets.
  • Must have ability to read and interpret maps.
  • Perform solid waste refuse collection and disposal tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to give full attention to assigned route. Drivers will navigate driveways, alleyways, lots, high traffic roadways and may operate in tight overhead environments. 
  • Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential, to successfully perform this job.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Team player who follows directions.
  • Ability to withstand all types of weather conditions.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or the equivalent; one year of driving experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and write English, interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Commercial license Class A or B and current medical certificate.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Bins may weigh in excess of 500 pounds and will require the driver to maneuver wheeled containers into position for truck to lift/service. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock.   The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Required to put on protective outfits, like gloves, safety footwear, and hardhat.
