We are seeking a highly commercial and strategic individual to serve as Chief Revenue Officer, English & Exams. This is one of three newly created roles with a focus on enhancing the British Council’s commercial strategy and offering. The Chief Revenue Officer is accountable for defining a sustainable revenue strategy and for driving profitable growth across B2C and B2O channels and identifying new opportunities for the organisation.
This is an exciting and global leadership role for a commercial, purpose-driven executive, with expertise in the international education sector and a track record of delivering sustainable revenues and growth in a competitive market environment.
Essential criteria:
- Deep knowledge of the international education market in which the organisation operates (including in-person and online teaching and assessment), with a clear understanding of customer needs and competitive dynamics.
- Extensive experience in a senior leadership role (£500m+ business) focused on profitable revenue generation, such as in sales, marketing, or business development (department size c.300 FTE; budget £25m+).
- Understanding of sales, marketing and proposition functions, and preferably experience working across sales, marketing, customer success and proposition functions. Able to lead and align these areas to drive cohesive revenue strategies.
- Practical experience of driving growth in business to consumer and business to business/business to government markets.
- Proven track record of delivering consistent revenue growth in a competitive market environment.
- Experience in developing and executing customer acquisition and retention strategies that drive sustainable growth.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with key customers, partners, and industry stakeholders.
- A track record of innovation and adaptability, with the ability to identify new revenue opportunities in a rapidly changing market environment.
Desirable criteria:
- Experience in a purpose-led organisation
- Experience of a franchise model of delivery
- Experience in delivering across in-person, digital and multi-modal delivery models.
Location: Stratford, London; hybrid working arrangement (3 days per week in-office)
Remuneration: Competitive; based on skills and experience
Appointment Term: Four-year term, with option to extend for an additional four years.
